Armitage kicks Mounties to victory

STROUDSBURG — Katie Armitage had two goals and an assist as Stroudsburg defeated Freedom Monday in girls non-conference soccer.

Emila Zabaldo had 20 saves in net for the Mounties. Sarah Effross had the other goal, while Nicole Reincke and Christina Paulin added helpers for Stroudsburg (4-1-1).

Lindsay Foder notched a goal and an assist, while Jill Yetter had two helpers. Pleasant Valley upped its record to 6-1 with the win.

EAST STROUDSBURG — Maylee Johnson put on a clinic as Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg toppled previously undefeated Pen Argyl 4-0 in Colonial League girls soccer.

Johnson scored all four goals for the Lady Spartans, while Kate Chambers, Sam Kramer, Rita LaBadie and Christine Clark tallied the assists. Notre Dame is now 4-2 overall with a 3-2 Colonial League mark.

BUSHKILL — Despite a late East Stroudsburg North surge, Pocono Mountain West took home an 8-4 win in MVC baseball Monday.

Matt Taylor led Pocono West, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Blake Knecht went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Panthers (1-3, 1-1 MVC).

Rick Zelinski went 2-for-3 and Rob Schuett went 2-for-4 with a double for Eastburg North 1-3 (0-2 MVC).

Fuhrman pitched three innings and struck out seven Eastburg South batters.

Pleasant Valley's offense put up 10 runs in the first three innings with the help of Joe Andrews' three RBIs and Jake Griesemer's two RBIs
