Student Success: Brookline Students Named to Dean's Lists – July 1

Brookline High graduate for , Bianca F. Sena made the Dean's List at UMass Amherst. She is studying to earn a BA Political Science, and made it for the last two semesters. Dean's List means her cumulative GPA is 3.7 or higher.

George Coggeshall of Brookline was awarded the degree of Doctor Physical Therapy Bridge Program, at Sacred Heart University's Annual Commencement on May 12th and 13th. Approximately 1,600 graduates received degrees from Sacred Heart University this year.

The following local residents were among 1086 students from Ithaca College who received degrees during the College's commencement ceremony held in May 2012.

• Owen Miller, a resident of Brookline, received a degree from Ithaca College's School of Business with a major in Business Administration.
• Paul Upham, a resident of Brookline, received a degree from Ithaca College's School of Humanities and Sciences with a major in Exploratory.

Coeducational and nonsectarian, Ithaca College is a nationally recognized independent college of some 6,300 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. The following local students graduted from the University of Hartford on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20:

• Zachary Louison of Brookline, Mass. graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in politics and government.
• Samantha Gordon of Chestnut Hill, Mass. graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in history.

The following students were among the 218 graduates from the Loomis Chaffee Class of 2012. The school's 96th Commencement Ceremony was held on June 8. More than 1,200 attendees tuned in to Commencement speaker and businessman William Bissell, Loomis Class of 1984, managing director of one of India's most successful retail companies Fabindia Overseas Pvt. • John Drew of Chestnut Hill, received Mathematics Department Honors and was a member of the Boys Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Lacrosse, and AP Weightlifting teams. He was also a member of the PRISM club. He will matriculate at Amherst College.
• Jeesue Lee of Brookline, was inducted into the Cum Laude Society and was a staff member of the student newspaper, the Log. She was a part of Dance Company and Dance Revue, and played the Gym Teacher/Tammy and Ensemble in "Hairspray." She will matriculate at Wesleyan University.

Area residents were among 465 seniors who graduated from Colby College May 20, receiving a bachelor of arts degree at the outdoor commencement in Waterville, Maine.

As commencement speaker, former British prime minister Tony Blair urged members of the Class of 2012 to continue learning with humility, to maintain an open mind, and to serve others. "Never stop learning. Carry on. And have the humility always to know that you can learn more," he said.

Students named to the Dean's List at the University of New Hampshire have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance. Highest Honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.7 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.5 to 3.69 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.2 through 3.49 are awarded honors.

The following areal students received bachelor degrees June 10 from Lawrence University at its 163rd commencement ceremony.

• Cat Way, daughter of Elizabeth Larkin, Brookline, and David Way, Tyngsboro, earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and psychology. Way is a 2004 graduate of Brookline High School.
• Mara Kunin, daughter of James Kunin and Susan Guzmich, Brookline, earned a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in government and history. Kunin is a 2008 graduate of Brookline High School.

Trevor Sybertz, a resident of Chestnut Hill, MA, has been named to the Spring 2012 Dean's List at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. Trevor is a Finance major. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester.
