LIRR train fatally strikes person in West Sayville
A person was fatally struck by a Long Island Rail Road train in West Sayville Friday afternoon, MTA officials say.
The incident happened near Cherry Avenue around 2:30 p.m. LIRR service was halted for several hours between Babylon and Patchogue, but has since been restored.
Passengers traveling for the holiday weekend tell News 12 they had been waiting for up to 45 minutes for a train.
The MTA says the struck person was not authorized to be on the tracks.
Delays were reported on some lines after service was restored Friday evening.
