UPDATE: Dez Bryant already wasn't expected to play for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. But now the team fears that the receiver who signed earlier this week with the Saints has a torn Achilles, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter via Twitter.

Earlier: Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant, who signed a one-year deal with the 7-1 New Orleans Saints earlier this week in advance of their game Sunday against the 5-3 Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium, will not play in Cincinnati, according to a report via Twitter from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Earlier: The ink has barely dried on free-agent wide receiver Dez Bryant's one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, but Saints head coach and former Miami University RedHawks offensive coordinator Sean Payton said he's taking an "open-minded" approach to whether Bryant might play against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to reporter Ed Werder.

"Seems to me it'd be hard for Bryant to get on the field this Sunday," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Thursday during Good Morning Football, after Rapoport pointed out that Bryant missed Wednesday's practice.

More from Twitter about what Bryant might be expected to contribute, if anything, on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium:

The Action Network's Chad Millman is confident that the Bengals will at least keep it close, covering the point spread.
