A week of heart-warming news to make us all smile

This sure is shaping up to be a week for some heart-warming news.

Tuesday, the world got a rare display of true sportsmanship when US Olympic runner Abbey D’Agostino helped her competitor, Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand, get up and back in the race after the two fell.

On Wednesday, The Post reported a happy-ending tale from right here in Gotham: A woman who works for a jeweler accidentally left a bag with $1 million worth of watches, necklaces and chains — $1 million worth! — on a Metro-North train.

Good-bye jewelry? Not quite: After a train cleaner turned the bag over to cops, the woman got it back intact. No one in her office even knew what happened.

Then, on Thursday, Bronx cops presented a $5,000 check for college, plus money for a Disney World trip, to a 7-year-old boy. The cops took it upon themselves to raise the cash after the boy’s father murdered his mom and then killed himself.

“We just wanted to put a smile on his face [and] make him happy,” said Capt. Keith Walton of the 49th Precinct.

Of course, such kindness is hardly unusual for cops. Remember the officer who bought boots for the homeless guy who had no shoes in the middle of winter in Times Square a few years back?

Alas, stories like these too rarely make the news. When they do, it’s cause to make everyone smile.
