Watch as crash pins Fairview Park tow driver beneath his truck

FAIRVIEW Park, Ohio -- Police are investigating after a tow truck driver was seriously injured when a car crashed into him early Monday morning as he stopped to tow a car.

The crash happened about 4 a.m. on Lorain Road near West 204th Street, Fairview Park police said in a statement.

No charges have been filed as the crash that remains under investigation, Fairview Park police Lt. Paul Shepard said. The tow truck driver is still in the hospital and is expected to remain there for some time, Shepard said.

His current condition was not immediately available.

An officer requested a tow truck for a car that was stopped in the eastbound lane on Lorain Road near West 204th Street.

A 53-year-old tow truck driver from Patton’s Towing arrived. The tow driver started to put the car onto the tow truck when a westbound Acura on Lorain Road struck the tow struck on the driver’s side, police said. Both the police cruiser and tow truck had emergency lights activated when the crash happened.

The crashed pushed the tow truck on top of its driver and pinned him under the truck bed. Officers gave first aid to the driver of the Acura and the tow truck driver until Fairview Park fire arrived.

Paramedics took the tow truck driver to MetroHealth with serious injuries.

The 35-year-old driver of the Acura has not been charged as of Tuesday.
