Brooklyn native Adrian Galvin grew up in a household bursting with creative talent. His mother worked as a director, while his father divided his time between acting and sculpting. Galvin, following in his parents’ footsteps, honed his own skills, delving into the worlds of painting, photography, and ballet (he once even created a dance piece with Greg Saunier of Deerhoof). However, it wasn’t until he found his voice in music that he truly felt he was able to fully express himself as an artist.

His career as a budding musician in New York has included a series of rock acts, including Yellerkin, the duo known for its folk single “Solar Laws” (since its release in 2014, it’s nabbed upwards of nearly 150K plays). Galvin’s latest endeavor is his solo project under the name Yoke Lore, which according to a press release, was “founded in the essence of human connection.”

As Yoke Lore, Galvin continues to mold his folk sound; in particular, he’s tapping into the bright, neo-psychedelic of Animal Collective and the smart, deconstructed pop of Dirty Projectors. Case in point: “Safety”, the latest single off his forthcoming debut EP Far Shore.

“I’ll be your safety, if you be my safety,” Galvin sings. His voice here is used much like an instrument, looped and layered over itself to create a wall of sound that insulates, and in a way, protects the listener — just as Yoke Lore intended.
