Nicaraguan fighter Carlos "Chocorroncito" Buitrago will not be in action fight this Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

As BoxingScene.com reported a few days ago, the boxer is involved in a huge scandal in Nicaragua - where allegations are being made that he allegedly hired someone to gun down lawyer Harold Contreras Rivera, 53 years old.

Rivera's attorney and several of his family members are blaming Buitrago, and the boxer's mother, for hiring the gunman, who is currently in custody. Apparently there was a long-running feud between the lawyer and Buitrago.

At the moment Buitrago has not been charged with a crime, but Rivera's family is making a real legal push to have him and his mother indicted for the crime. They claim the boxer and his mother made numerous threats to Rivera.

Based on the police reports, Rivera was getting out his car when the gunman shot several times - striking the lawyer twice.

The promoter of Friday's card, Henry Rivalta, felt it was best to remove Buitrago from the card until the entire mess is cleared up overseas.

"Of course we have removed it from the card, which is really a shame," said Rivalta to George Ebro.

"We are sorry about this situation and we hope it will be clarified as soon as possible. We have nothing left to say but to wish Carlos luck. Certainly, there was interest in seeing him, because he is a good fighter and because he has been close to becoming a world champion. At this moment we can not speculate on such a complicated issue."

Buitrago was ready to pack his suitcases and go to Miami today, but now he must have patience, clarify this situation and then return to the ring.

For his part, Buitrago said - "I won't earn a good amount of money in this fight, and I will clarify to the Nicaraguan people that I am innocent. Do not believe that I am going to run away or that I have any intention of doing so."

The boxer has a record of 30 wins (17 knockouts), 3 losses and 1 draw, and he fought for a world title on four occasions in his career, losing three times and once ending in a draw.

His last world title fight was on December 31 in Japan, where he lost by knockout against Hiroto Kyoguchi, the 105 pound champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
