‘Uncharted’ Star El Dusty’s Innovative Trap Cumbia Sound Earned Him A Latin Grammy Nom

The point of our Uncharted series is shining a light on the artists that are this close to breaking and worthy of your attention. We’ve already shown you how NGHTMRE exploded in the months after our profile and now it looks like El Dusty is well on his way to the same. The subject of our most recent Uncharted just got nominated for a Latin Grammy, thanks to his genuinely excellent Happy Colors collab “Cumbia Anthem.”

The Corpus Christi native was nominated in the “Best Urban/Fusion Performance” category, where he has a chance to unseat much-loved and established artists like reggaeton duo Alexis y Fido and Wisin-less rapper Yandel. Check out the nominees below and give a listen to the music video for “Cumbia Anthem” up top:

Best Urban/Fusion Performance

Alexis y Fido, “Una En Un Millon”
El Dusty feat. Happy Colors, “Cumbia Anthem”
Jacob Forever, “Hasta Que Se Seque El Malecon”
Tubarao feat. Maneirinho & Anitta, “Pra Todas Elas”
Yandel, “Encantadora”

If “Cumbia Anthem” has you wanting to know El Dusty a bit better (and it should), take a look at the video below where he explains how he came into his first turntable, inherited a massive collection of excellent vinyl and developed his own blended style.
