Scam Note Tricks Woman Out Of Cash, Credit Card Numbers: Cops

PLUS: 2 vehicle break-ins happen around the same time in KinderCare's parking lot in Arlington Heights.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The following information is from the Frankfort Police Department unless otherwise noted. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Scam

A note left for a woman between midnight Oct. 30 and 1:30 p.m. Nov. 2 in the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road demanded that she call a phone number because she owed money. The woman called the number, and she was duped into giving over money, as well as credit card and gift card numbers.

Vehicle Break-In

A purse was stolen from an unlocked 2011 silver Ford vehicle parked in the parking lot of KinderCare, 1320 N. Arlington Heights Road, between 6:50 and 7 a.m. Nov. 2. Sunglasses, keys, a Samsung cellphone, a driver's license, cash and credit cards were in the purse.

A purse and messenger bag also were stolen from a locked 2008 gray Honda Civic parked in the same KinderCare lot at the same time. An Apple laptop valued at $1,100, as well as credit cards, a Coach wallet and medication were in the bags.

Retail Theft

Several items, including perfume, jeans, shoes and sweatshirts were stolen by three men from Kohl's, 800 W. Dundee Road, between 5:30 a.m. and 5:36 p.m. Nov. 2.

Theft

A red Hewlett Packard laptop, valued at $700, was stolen from a hotel room between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Nov. 3 from the Red Roof Inn, 22 W. Algonquin Road. No signs of forced entry were uncovered by investigators, police said.

Theft

Cash was stolen from a woman's unattended purse who was distracted by a group of individuals, which included small children, while she was near the register at Merry Memory, 405 S. Arlington Heights Road, between noon and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Attempted Break-In

A house in the 1100 block of North Dale Avenue showed signs of an attempt at forced entry. The attempt happened between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. Nov. 2. No entry was gained, and it's not known how much it will cost to repair the damage to the house.
