First half: It didn't take long for Illinois to score against Nebraska. The Fighting Illini struck first in Saturday evening's match up thanks to a 66-yard touchdown run from Reggie Corbin on Illinois' second play of the game.The run gave Illinois an early 7-0 lead over the Huskers.As Nebraska worked to respond, quarterback Adrian Martinez fumbled, setting Illinois up with favorable field position.The Fighting Illini then embarked upon a drive that took 5 plays as they then added another touchdown, putting Illinois up 14-0.Nebraska would fight back, however. The Huskers cut the Fighting Illini's lead in half thanks to a methodical, 10-play drive that was capped with a 6-yard pass from Martinez to Jack Stoll, cutting the lead to 14-7.Scott Frost: Illinois, intent on upsetting Nebraska, took advantage of another Nebraska turnover. Another Nebraska fumble set the Fighting Illini up at the Huskers' two-yard line, allowing Illinois to tack on another score, putting Illinois up 21-7.Nebraska responded by grabbing a turnover of its own by way of an interception. The Huskers picked off Brandon Peters and followed that up with a 6-play, 79-yard drive that ended with a 27-yard pass from Martinez to Wan'Dale Robinson. That score cut Illinois' lead to 21-14 heading into halftime.Adrian Martinez:Second half: Right out of halftime, the Fighting Illini stretched their lead out even further. After stalling the Huskers offense on their opening drive of the second half, Illinois quickly marched down the field and made their way into the end zone thanks to a 36 yard run, extending that lead to 28-14.Nebraska, down two touchdowns again, moved downfield and cut its deficit back down to 7 points at 28-21 as Martinez tossed a three-yard touchdown pass over to Wan'Dale Robinson.Illinois, seemingly content to trade scores with Scott Frost's team, moved the point differential back to 14 with a 10-yard touchdown run, setting the score at 35-21.Wan'Dale Robinson: The Huskers then mounted a comeback and Dedrick Mills was a huge contributor to those efforts. Mills punched the ball into the end zone on a 14-yard run, but the extra point attempt was blocked, setting the score at 35-27. Nebraska overcame that deficit and tied the game up after a two-yard touchdown run from Mills and a successful two-point attempt.With the game knotted up at 35-35, Illinois knocked a field goal through the uprights to reclaim its lead, but the score wouldn't stay at 38-35 in Illinois' favor for long.The Huskers claimed their first lead of the game as Robinson ran 1 yard into the end zone, putting the Huskers up 42-38.Lamar Jackson:Nebraska missed a field goal and was unable to extend its lead over Illinois, but the Cornhuskers completed their comeback, winning 42-38.
