SALISBURY — St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church has awarded scholarships for the 2018-19 year.

A total of 14 members of St. Matthew’s received a total of $12,000.

The recipients are:

• Alexander Calloway Askew, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $1,000 renewal scholarship. He will be a junior at Western Carolina University this fall. He plans to major in natural resource conservation management soil and water. His parents are Paula and David Askew of Gold Hill.

• Faith Reanna Blume, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a new $1,000 scholarship. She will be a junior at Appalachian State University this fall. She is a member and secretary of the biology club. She is a member of the Mountaineer Organization of Science Students, Art Management Organization and local PETA chapter. She plans to major in biology. Her parents are Anne and Kevin Blume of Gold Hill.

• Connor Kenneth Erbsen, a graduate of Eastland Junior and Senior High School in Lanark, Illinois, has received a new $1,000 scholarship. He will be a freshman at Iowa State University this fall. He plans to major in agronomy and agriculture business. At Eastland, he was a U.S. Presidential Scholars finalist from Illinois and a member of the National Honor Society. His mother is Anjie Connor-Erbsen of St. Lanark.

• Grant McKinley Hoffner, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. He will be a senior at Western Carolina University this fall. He plans to major in criminal justice. His parents are Melissa and Randy Hoffner of Salisbury.

• Jackson Ross Justus, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $500 scholarship renewal. He will be a completing his two-year associate degree in art history at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College this fall. His parents are Frances and Barry Justus of Salisbury.

• Heather Nicole Lyerly, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $500 scholarship renewal. She will be a junior at Rowan-County Community College this fall. She plans to major in nursing. Her parents are Ada Lyerly of Salisbury and Bobby Lyerly.

• Jordan Alexandria McCall, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $500 scholarship renewal. She will be attending Rowan-Cabarrus Community College as a sophomore this fall. She plans to major in physical education. Her parents are Barry and Lee McCall of Granite Quarry.

• Michaela Domicia Patterson, a graduate of Gray Stone Day School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. She will be a sophomore at Catawba College this fall. She is in the Honors Program and is a C2C office assistant. Her mother is Carol Patterson of Salisbury.

• Amy Payton Rawson, a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. She will be a sophomore at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa this fall. She is in her school’s Honors College and is a Dean’s List student. Payton plans to major in architectural engineering. Her parents are Lisa and Bob Rawson of Gold Hill.

• Ashton Marie Rogers, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. She will be a senior at Catawba College this fall. Ashton plans to major in biochemistry. Her parents are Kim and Greyland Rogers of Salisbury.

• Taylor Nicole Rogers, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $500 scholarship renewal. She will be completing her degree at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College this fall. She is a member of the OTA Program and Car Fit certified. Taylor is majoring in occupational therapy assisting. Her parents are Kim and Trip Rogers of Salisbury.

• Sydney Lauren Trexler, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. She will be a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this fall. She is a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and Women’s Heart Health Fund Raising. She plans to major in media and journalism with a specialization in strategic communications. Her parents are Corey and Tanya Trexler of Salisbury. 

• Victoria Jane Trexler, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a new $1,000 scholarship. She will be a freshman at North Carolina State University this fall. At East Rowan, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Civitans, National Technical Honor Society and Sigma Phi Gramma. Victoria was a junior marshal and was a three-year member of the track team and an East Rowan cheerleader for four years. She plans to major in engineering. Her parents are Lisa and Ty Trexler of Richfield.

• Elizabeth Williams, a graduate of East Rowan High School, received a $1,000 scholarship renewal. She will be a senior at Pfeiffer University this fall. She plans to major in business management and leadership. She is a Dean’s List student and a member of Alpha Sigma Lamda. Her parents are Dennis and Kelly Williams of Salisbury.
