The Alexandria gymnastics team travelled to Perham on Saturday for the Section 8, Class A tournament and came away with a third-place finish out of eight teams.
The Cardinals achieved one of their highest team scores of 137.625. Detroit Lakes, the three-time defending state champion, took first place with 152.375. This was the Lakers fifth section championship win in a row and new school record score. Perham took second with 145.875.
“The Cards competed strong and persevered,” Cardinals assistant coach Nichole Boyden said. “It was a complete team effort as everyone rallied and competed skills they have been upgrading this season.”

Alexandria had three different athletes place in the top 10 but only the top three all around winners and the top three finishers (excluding the top three all around gymnasts) in each section qualify for state.
Senior Joslyn Kent placed in eighth place on the vault (9.2), bars (8.95), beam (9.025) and grabbed sixth place in the all-around. Freshman Rachel Boyden took ninth place on the bars with a score of 8.6.
Junior Sydney Gray took seventh on the floor (9.275) and eighth in the all around.
