West Nile Virus has been found in several groups of mosquitoes in Cabell County, the Cabell-Huntington Health Department says.

No reported cases in people have been reported, though.

Health experts say the virus most commonly affects people older than 60. It is not transmitted from person to person.

In the last five years, only three documented cases have been reported in West Virginia.

Symptoms of West Nile Virus include fever, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph glands, a rash on the chest, stomach or back, and a fever.

The symptoms of more severe cases include disorientation, coma, tremors, vision loss and numbness.

Ways to avoid the virus include using mosquito repellents, wearing light-colored clothing and long-sleeve shirts, avoiding outdoor activities during peak mosquito hours and not having standing water around your home. Standing water is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Things like bird baths should be changed at least weekly.
