WEBVTT ♪ ALLISON: THIS WEEK, WE SAY GOODBYE TO THE 41‘ST PRESIDENT, GEORGE H.W. BUSH. PRESIDENT BUSH DIED LATE FRIDAY AT HIS HOUSTON HOME AT AGE 94. OVER THE NEXT WEEK, A SERIES OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC EVENTS IN HOUSTON AND WASHINGTON, TO HONOR HIS LIFE. TODAY I SPOKE TO A LOCAL WOMAN ABOUT HER TIME SPENT ORKING FOR THE GEORGE HW BUSH PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION IN COLLEGE STATION. SHE SAYS THAT SHE HAS FOND MEMORIES OF A MAN WHO DEDICATED HIS LIFE TO PROMOTING PUBLIC SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP ELIZABETH MILLER NOW LIVES IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS. BUT SHE SAYS THAT HER TI WORKING FOR THE GEORGE H.W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION IN COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS NOT ONLY HELPED HER PROFESSIONAL CAREER BUT ALSO SHAPED HER LIFE. >> HE REMEMBERED PEOPLE AS HUMANS AND NOT JUST OPPONENT I THINK THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR ME TO LEARN. COMMUNICATION, HUMILITY AND JUST REMEMBERING THAT THERE’S ANOTHER PERSON WITH FEELINGS AND A FAMILY ON THE OTHER SIDE ALLISON: MILLER WORKED FOR THE FOUNDATION FOR SOME BIG EVENTS. INCLUDING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS INAUGURATION. >> WE ARE CHARGED WITH CARRYING ON HIS LEGACY. JUST THE GRACE AND DIGNITY HOW HE APPROACHED OTHER PEOPLE. HE PASSIONATELY FELT THAT YOU NEEDED TO LIVE IT AND LEARNED BEFORE YOU LEAD OTHERS IN IT. WE SAW THAT TIME AND TIME AGAIN WITH THE PEOPLE HE CONTINUED TO BRING INTO THE FOUNDATION TO SPEAK AND TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY. ALLISON: MILLER SAYS THAT AND SPENDING TIME AT GEORGE H.W. BUSH AND HIS WIFE BARBARA, SHE WITNESSED A REMARKABLE LOVE STORY FIRSTHAND. >> WHEN YOU SAW GEORGE AND BARBARA TOGETHER, YOU SAW A TRUE CONNECTI OF PEOPLE THAT REALLY, TRULY CARED ABOUT EACH OTHER AND HAD LEARNED TO BEAT NOT JUST CARING TOWARD ONE ANOTHER BUT PARTNERS IN LIFE. THEY HAD AN UNSPOKEN LANGUAGE FROM ACROSS AN ENTIRE AUDITORIUM OF PEOPLE. ALLISON: MILLER WAS IN GRAD SCHOOL AT A AND AM DURING HER TIME THAT SHE WORKED FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY FOUNDATION. Elizabeth Miller, a native Texan who now lives in Northwest Arkansas, spoke to 40/29 News about her time working with the George H.W. Bush Foundation. Miller was a Development Director with the foundation while she attended grad school at Texas A&M. "He felt passionately about being a public servant, and he believed in servant leadership. He tried to walk that fine line of being a voice and a leader while not overstepping sitting presidents. There's such an outpouring of love right now because he was able to remember people as humans and not as an opponent," Miller said. She said that she remembers his kindness, dedication to promoting public service and his humility.
