32. Chicago Bears
CHICAGO BEARS (3-13)
New faces: QB Mike Glennon, QB Mitchell Trubisky, QB Mark Sanchez, WR Markus Wheaton, TE Dion Sims, CB Prince Amukamara, CB Marcus Cooper, S Quintin Demps.
Key losses: QB Jay Cutler, WR Alshon Jeffery, WR Eddie Royal, CB Tracy Porter.
Strengths: Bears believe they addressed QB spot for long term in offseason. Could eventually have flexibility to make trade if Glennon performs well while Trubisky develops as they hope. RB Jordan Howard looked like steal as fifth-round pick last season, finishing second to Dallas' Ezekiel Elliott with 1,313 yards rushing.
Weaknesses: Lack of depth was big issue last season, with 19 players finishing on injured reserve. Bears believe they could have solid front seven with NT Eddie Goldman, DE Akiem Hicks and LBs Danny Trevathan and Leonard Floyd, if they stay healthy. That would help questionable secondary after Chicago finished with league-low 11 takeaways last season. With Jeffery gone, Kevin White needs to show he can be No. 1 WR after being limited to four games through first two seasons because of injuries.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jordan Howard, White.
Expectations: Bears need to show they're headed in right direction coming off worst season in decades. With one playoff appearance since 2006 team's Super Bowl run, patience running thin in Chicago. Crowds shrank in Bears' third straight losing season. Heat could mount on Fox — signed through 2018 — if team doesn't progress. Glennon gets chance to start after backing up Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay. Sanchez in No. 2 spot, with Bears insisting they will bring No. 2 overall draft pick Trubisky along slowly. But Trubisky dazzled at times in preseason and sparked QB controversy in Chicago.
31. New York Jets
NEW YORK JETS (5-11)
New faces: QB Josh McCown, WR Jermaine Kearse, CB Morris Claiborne, S Jamal Adams, S Marcus Maye, OL Kelvin Beachum, LB Demario Davis, DL Kony Ealy, K Chandler Catanzaro, offensive coordinator John Morton, outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene.
Key losses: DL Sheldon Richardson, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker, CB Darrelle Revis, C Nick Mangold, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, LT Ryan Clady, RT Breno Giacomini, LB David Harris, QB Geno Smith, K Nick Folk, S Calvin Pryor, S Marcus Gilchrist, CB Dexter McDougle, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.
Strengths: Defensive line remains one of best in league — even with trade of Richardson to Seattle for WR Kearse — with Leonard Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson and Steve McLendon leading way. Beyond that, much of rest of roster is work in progress.
Weaknesses: Quarterback situation uninspiring with journeyman McCown running offense while Jets wait for Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty to progress enough to take over. Offensive line shaky at best and struggled throughout preseason. Kearse immediately steps in as No. 1 receiver, with Robby Anderson behind him and lots of unproven youngsters after that. Inexperienced but promising rookie safeties Adams and Maye highlight revamped secondary, which needs to be much better than alarmingly leaky unit from last season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Anderson was fantasy surprise as rookie, catching 42 passes for 587 yards and two TDs. Can stretch field with excellent speed and should see even more targets with Quincy Enunwa out with neck injury and departures of Marshall and Decker. RB Bilal Powell is versatile threat out of backfield and could see increased carries despite presence of Matt Forte, who could also pile up catches in Morton's West Coast-style offense.
Expectations: Many outside facility think Jets are in for long season, and could struggle to win even one game. Players insist they'll be better than expected. But tough schedule and inexperience could have Todd Bowles coaching for job, while GM Mike Maccagnan keeps eye on building for future. Top-5 draft pick next April appears likely.
30. Cleveland Browns
CLEVELAND BROWNS (1-15)
New faces: QB DeShone Kizer, DE Myles Garrett, C JC Tretter, RG Kevin Zeitler, WR Kenny Britt, S Jabrill Peppers.
Key losses: WR Terrelle Pryror, CB Joe Haden, TE Gary Barnidge, QBs Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III, ILB Demario Davis, WR Andrew Hawkins.
Strengths: Browns committed more than $120 million, including $64.5 million guaranteed, during offseason on revamped offensive line. Tretter and Zeitler improve unit anchored by 10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas, who has never missed play in career and been on field for nearly 10,000 consecutive snaps. Thomas, though, has never made playoffs and that streak won't end this season. As long as group stays injury free, Browns should be able to run ball and protect Kizer, who has shown good pocket presence.
Weaknesses: Team's surprising decision to release Haden, two-time Pro Bowler who signed with Steelers, has weakened secondary that already had major question marks. Jamar Taylor, long-time Tennessee starter Jason McCourty and Briean Boddy-Calhoun will rotate at corner/nickel spots with Peppers, who will also returns punts and kickoffs, and Derrick Kindred at safety spots. That's not bad, but injury or two could make things real tough.
Fantasy Players To Watch: RB Isaiah Crowell ran for 952 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and 12.3 attempts per game. Coach Hue Jackson lamented not giving Crowell more touches, so his numbers could increase, and 24-year-old is in contract year, so he's plenty motivated. RB Duke Johnson had 53 catches last season and could have more prominent role in offense.
Expectations: If Kizer, 27th different starting quarterback since 1999, can hold his own and stay healthy, Browns should win four or five games. Jackson's plan to run ball and play aggressively on defense will help protect second-round pick from Notre Dame. As analytics-friendly front office continues to retool roster, biggest need is offensive playmakers. Second-year WR Corey Coleman must take major step forward and become dependable third-down threat. Owner Jimmy Haslam is talking patience with Jackson, who has to hope he gets enough time to further develop his plan.
29. Los Angeles Rams
LOS ANGELES RAMS (4-12)
New faces: Coach Sean McVay, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, WR Sammy Watkins, WR Robert Woods, LT Andrew Whitworth, LB Connor Barwin, C John Sullivan, CB Kayvon Webster.
Key losses: WR Kenny Britt, TE Lance Kendricks, OL Greg Robinson, WR Brian Quick, S T.J. McDonald, DL William Hayes, DL Dominique Easley (injury), QB Case Keenum.
Strengths: Defense should remain solid in Phillips' new scheme. D-line has looked sharp in preseason despite depletion, and will get big boost when (if?) All-Pro DT Aaron Donald ends holdout. Watkins, Woods provide much-improved targets for Jared Goff. Offensive line appears to be upgraded significantly. Team energy has improved with arrival of McVay, youngest head coach in modern NFL history.
Weaknesses: Offense still must prove its competence after two terrible seasons. McVay doesn't have wealth of personnel options, but is building scheme to take advantage of few strengths. Goff under big spotlight after unimpressive rookie campaign, but is dedicated to improvement. Defensive depth looks sketchy, particularly on line and in secondary.
Fantasy Players To Watch: RB Todd Gurley looks rejuvenated in preseason after inexplicably poor relocation season. Watkins will get ample opportunity to pad stats in potential contract year. TE Tyler Higbee could be sleeper with McVay expected to target tight ends with many passes. CB Trumaine Johnson will be out to prove his worth with big contract on tap for 2018.
Expectations: After 12-year playoff absence and 13 straight non-winning seasons, postseason return seems like long shot in McVay's first year. More realistic to expect incremental offensive improvement, groundwork set for future. If Donald's holdout lingers deep into season, future of franchise could take hit. Best guess for finish is 6-10.
28. Buffalo Bills
BUFFALO BILLS (7-9)
New faces: WRs Jordan Matthews, Andre Holmes and rookie Zay Jones; safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer; CBs rookie Tre'Davious White, E.J. Gaines and Shareece Wright; OLs Vlad Ducasse and rookie Dion Dawkins; FBs Patrick DiMarco and Mike Tolbert; QB T.J. Yates and rookie Nathan Peterman; PK Stephen Hauschka; coach Sean McDermott; general manager Brandon Beane.
Key losses: WRs Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, Anquan Boldin and Marquise Goodwin; CBs Stephon Gilmore, Ronald Darby, Nickell Robey-Coleman and Kevon Seymour; safeties Aaron Williams and Corey Graham; LBs Zach Brown and Reggie Ragland; RBs Mike Gillislee and Jonathan Williams; QBs EJ Manuel and Cardale Jones; PK Dan Carpenter; coach Rex Ryan; general manager Doug Whaley.
Strengths: Defensive front of Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus and Jerry Hughes returns intact, and switching to better-suited 4-3 scheme after unit underachieved in Ryan's 3-4 system past two years. LeSean McCoy-led running attack, which led NFL in yards rushing past two seasons.
Weaknesses: Receiver position is completely transformed and lacks downfield threat after Watkins traded to Rams, and experience after Boldin abruptly retired two weeks after signing with team last month. QB Tyrod Taylor's top targets projected to be Matthews, acquired from Philadelphia, Holmes and Jones. Secondary is also entirely revamped with free-agent-addition Hyde taking over as play caller, while adjusting to new scheme installed by McDermott and coordinator Leslie Frazier. Offensive line has shown signs of struggling in pass protection, especially with starting LT Cordy Glenn missing most of offseason with sore left foot.
Fantasy Players To Watch: McCoy is left as Bills' only proven offensive threat and expected to be heavily involved as both rusher and receiver in new coordinator Rick Dennison's plans. Matthews is worth consideration as only proven receiver, though missed past month with chipped sternum. Matthews expected to be ready for opener.
Expectations: Have plummeted over past month with new regime continuing offseason purge in exchange for draft picks. With Williams cut on Sunday, roster features just 16 players team drafted, including six rookies this year, leaving team in jeopardy of extending NFL's longest active playoff drought to 18 seasons. Only 25 players return from last season, including OT Seantrel Henderson and WR Walter Powell, who open season serving NFL suspensions.
27. Jacksonville Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (3-13)
New faces: CB A.J. Bouye, DE Calais Campbell, SS Barry Church, RB Leonard Fournette, LT Cam Robinson.
Key losses: CB Prince Amukamara, LT Kelvin Beachum, SS Johnathan Cyprien, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, DT Roy Miller, TE Julius Thomas.
Strengths: Landing a top draft pick? Jaguars have chosen in top 10 for NFL-record 10 consecutive years, although none of the picks have made Pro Bowl and only Tyson Alualu (2010) got second contract. They seemingly hit on CB Jalen Ramsey last season, so his emergence along with additions of Campbell and Bouye (paid duo $56 million guaranteed) should make defense more formidable. Lack of pass rush and turnovers were huge issues in 2016, so Jags counting on more pressure from young edge rushers Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler leading to more mistakes from opposing QBs.
Weaknesses: Nearly every offensive position, especially quarterback and offensive line. Jaguars settled on QB Blake Bortles to start — partly because of scrambling ability behind shaky line — and he'll surely be on short leash. Line likely No. 1 issue again. Top executive Tom Coughlin failed to adequately upgrade unit in draft and free agency, huge miscalculation considering plan was to pound ball with Fournette and Chris Ivory.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Allen Robinson, who made Pro Bowl in 2015 following 1,400-yard, 14-touchdown campaign, enters contract year trying to rebound from disappointing season. Robinson was team's best offensive player in training camp.
Expectations: Coughlin seemingly botched several key decisions, none bigger than picking up fifth-year option in Bortles' rookie contract. Move would cost franchise $19 million in 2018 if Bortles sustains major injury this season. QB play and Coughlin's miscalculations likely will result in another year of double-digit losses and another high draft pick.
26. San Francisco 49ers
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (2-14)
New faces: Coach Kyle Shanahan, QB Brian Hoyer, WR Pierre Garcon, WR Marquise Goodwin, WR Aldrick Robinson, DE Elvis Dumervil, DT Earl Mitchell, RB Kyle Juszczyk, OL Laken Tomlinson, K Robbie Gould, DC Robert Saleh; rookies DL Solomon Thomas, LB Reuben Foster, QB C.J. Beathard, TE George Kittle.
Key losses: QB Colin Kaepernick, QB Blaine Gabbert, WR Torrey Smith, WR Jeremy Kerley, WR Quinton Patton, S Antoine Bethea, LB Ahmad Brooks, CB Tramaine Brock, TE Vance McDonald, DL Quinton Dial, LB Gerald Hodges.
Strengths: Three straight first-round picks on defensive linemen make that foundation of team. Arik Armstead adjusting well to new role as outside rusher in third NFL season. Second-year pro DeForest Buckner shown signs of being dominant from interior. Team has high expectations for No. 3 overall pick Thomas. Also used first-round pick this season on Foster, who shined in preseason. Teams with NaVorro Bowman, who looks to regain All-Pro form after Achilles tendon injury cut last season short.
Weaknesses: Team coming off two-win season has plenty, but key could be running back. Carlos Hyde has failed to develop into back Niners hoped for when they drafted him in second round in 2014. Hyde missed nearly one-third of his games and rushed for just 1,791 yards in three seasons. Behind Hyde are undrafted rookie Matt Breida and journeyman Raheem Mostert.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Goodwin. Had just 49 catches in four seasons with Buffalo but developed immediate chemistry with Hoyer. Speedster looks to show he's more than just deep threat and could become Hoyer's top option in passing game.
Expectations: Niners at start of what could be long rebuild after precipitous fall in recent years from team that made three straight trips to NFC title games from 2011-13 under coach Jim Harbaugh to one that won just two games in 2016. Shanahan fourth coach in as many years, following one-year tenures by Jim Tomsula, Chip Kelly. Shanahan given six-year deal along with new GM John Lynch in sign organization might finally show patience. That could lead to growing pains this season as San Francisco tries to lay foundation for future success. Hoyer will be QB but is likely little more than bridge to longer-term solution that could come next offseason, or from promising rookie Beathard. Few proven playmakers on offense with almost all of recent high draft picks having been used on defensive players or offensive line. Main goal this season will be improving on last year's win total and identify some building blocks for better days ahead.
25. Cincinnati Bengals
CINCINNATI BENGALS (6-9-1)
New faces: WR John Ross, RB Joe Mixon, LB Kevin Minter, K Randy Bullock.
Key losses: LT Andrew Whitworth, RG Kevin Zeitler, CB Adam "Pacman" Jones (suspended by NFL for first game), LB Vontaze Burfict (suspended for first three games).
Strengths: Passing game. It struggled last season after losing WR A.J. Green, TE Tyler Eifert and RB Giovani Bernard, but all are back from significant injuries. QB Andy Dalton had another solid season despite depleted cast around him. CBs Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, William Jackson III and Darqueze Dennard are first-round picks providing great depth. Mixon adds another dual threat out of backfield.
Weaknesses: Offensive line lost its top two players in free agency. Tackles Cedric Ogbuehi and Jake Fisher are inexperienced. Dalton was among most-sacked passers in NFL even with Whitworth and Zeitler anchoring line. On defense, Bengals are counting on young players like LB Nick Vigil to grow quickly into more prominent roles.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Green remains one of NFL's most consistently productive and dangerous receivers. Mixon should grow into bigger role as season goes on, and he's receiving threat out of backfield.
Expectations: Bengals ended run of five straight playoff seasons and first-round losses. Whether they return to postseason depends on whether offense stays healthy, line can give Dalton time, and young players on defense grow up fast. Coach Marvin Lewis is 0-7 in postseason and failed to get contract extension in offseason — his deal ends after 2017. Whether he sticks around depends upon on if he can get Cincinnati back to playoffs and finally win one with roster that has more questions than others in recent years.
24. New Orleans Saints
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (7-9)
New faces: RB Adrian Peterson, RG Larry Warford, LB A.J. Klein, WR Ted Ginn Jr., DE Alex Okafor, CB Marshon Lattimore, OT Ryan Ramczyk, S Marcus Williams, RB Alvin Kamara, LB Manti T'eo.
Key losses: WR Brandin Cooks, DT Nick Fairley, RB Tim Hightower, S Jairus Byrd.
Strengths: Passing game led by QB Drew Brees, who has passed for 5,000 or more yards in four of past six seasons, and no fewer than 4,870 yards in that span. His top target is Michael Thomas, big receiver with strong hands coming off exceptional rookie campaign. Running game also appears improved with additions of Peterson and Kamara to incumbent starter Mark Ingram, who is coming off best season. Thomas Morstead's booming punts and increasingly refined accuracy should provide field position advantages as well.
Weaknesses: Defense appeared much improved during preseason, but against offenses running basic schemes with mix of reserves and regulars that won't resemble what Saints will face in regular season. So there remains much to prove for team that fielded worst defense against pass in NFL last season, and which struggled with pass rush.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Brees is always strong choice; Thomas, Ingram.
Expectations: Saints have chance to contend if they have good fortune with injuries, and if young players get up to speed quickly, particularly on defense. In each of past three seasons, they went 7-9 with number of close losses, so they weren't that far off. Then again, NFC South looks tougher with NFC champs Atlanta at top, Carolina trying to regain Super Bowl form of two seasons ago, and Tampa Bay looking like rising team.
23. Philadelphia Eagles
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (7-9)
New faces: WRs Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, CB Ronald Darby, RB LeGarrette Blount, QB Nick Foles, DT Tim Jernigan, DE Chris Long, OL Chance Warmack, CB Patrick Robinson, S Corey Graham; rookies DE Derek Barnett, CB Rasul Douglas, WRs Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson, RBs Donnel Pumphrey and Corey Clement.
Key losses: DT Bennie Logan, DE Connor Barwin, LS Jon Dorenbos, CBs Leodis McKelvin and Nolan Carroll.
Strengths: Defensive line of Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Tim Jernigan, Barnett, Vinny Curry and Beau Allen is among best in NFL. Jeffery, Smith and rookie WRs upgraded position. TEs Zach Ertz, Brent Celek and Trey Burton are solid.
Weaknesses: Uncertainty at RB with aging veterans Blount and Darren Sproles, oft-injured Wendell Smallwood and two rookies. Don't have shutdown CB. Lack LB depth.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jeffery, Ertz, Agholor, all of whom should benefit from Carson Wentz's projected maturity.
Expectations: Eagles surrounded Wentz with veteran talent on one-year contracts to compete in NFC East while still building roster with young players and draft picks. If defense improves, offense plays to its potential and key players stay healthy, they should stay in playoffs mix.
22. Washington Redksins
WASHINGTON REDSKINS (8-7-1)
New faces: WR Terrelle Pryor, DL Stacy McGee, DL Terrell McClain, LB Zach Brown, S D.J. Swearinger.
Key losses: Offensive coordinator Sean McVay, WR DeSean Jackson, WR Pierre Garcon, DE Chris Baker, LB Trent Murphy (injured).
Strengths: TE Jordan Reed gives QB Kirk Cousins matchup nightmare in passing game and offensive line features one of league's best left tackles in Trent Williams. CB Josh Norman is big-play threat in secondary and LB Ryan Kerrigan in pass rush as defense should be improved under new coordinator Greg Manusky.
Weaknesses: Lack of familiarity between Cousins and WRs Pryor and Josh Doctson could hurt, especially if RB Robert Kelley can't generate consistent ground attack. Third-down and red-zone play particularly on defense cost playoff spot last year and could be problem again.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Cousins is coming off back-to-back 4,000-yard passing seasons, Reed is good bet to produce big numbers if healthy, and WR Jamison Crowder will have bigger role after 67 catches for 847 yards, seven TDs last year.
Expectations: Contending for playoff spot and possibly division title in uncertain NFC East. Cousins playing for another contract should be more motivation than distraction with coach Jay Gruden dialing up passing game as much as possible. Anything from 6-10 to 10-6 is possible with brutal schedule and big problems to fix from last year with limited personnel turnover on defense.
21. Detroit Lions
DETROIT (9-8)
New faces: OT Rick Wagner, OG T.J. Lang, OT Greg Robinson, DE Cornelius Washington, rookie LB Jarrad Davis, rookie CB Teez Tabor.
Key losses: OT Riley Reiff, OG Larry Warford, LB DeAndre Levy, DE Kerry Hyder, WR Anquan Boldin.
Strengths: Passing game. QB Matthew Stafford, armed with NFL's richest contract, has found groove going into second full season in coordinator Jim Bob Cooter's offense. WR Golden Tate, WR Marvin Jones, TE Eric Ebron, RB Theo Riddick and RB Ameer Abdullah give Stafford slew of options.
Weaknesses: Running game averaged 30th last three years and might not be improved. Abdullah and Riddick coming off injury-shortened seasons and LT Taylor Decker out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery. On defense, each position group needs surprising contributor to help unit surpass low expectations. DE Kerry Hyder had season-ending Achilles tendon injury, putting more pressure on DE Ezekiel Ansah to be heathy and productive as he was two years ago.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jones had career-high 930 yards receiving in first season with team. He might approach career-high 10 TDs from 2013 in Cincinnati without Boldin as go-to player in red zone. Abdullah can contribute on ground and air if he stays healthy.
Expectations: Team took down banner in renovated Ford Field that listed playoff appearances. Good move because Lions probably won't make playoffs after earning spot in 2016, 2014 and 2011.
20. Los Angeles Chargers
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (5-11)
New faces: Coach Anthony Lynn, defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, LT Russell Okung, WR Mike Williams.
Key losses: OT King Dunlap, LB Manti Te'o, CB Brandon Flowers, G D.J. Fluker, WR Stevie Johnson, RB Danny Woodhead, OG Forrest Lamp (injured), LB Denzel Perryman (injured ankle).
Strengths: QB Philip Rivers hasn't missed game in 11 years and remains among NFL's best. After rough 2016, he now has ample targets with improved health of Keenan Allen. Injured rookie WR Mike Williams also should help out at some point. Offensive line likely improves with Okung protecting Rivers' blind side. Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram among best pass-rushing duos in game. Secondary looks reinvigorated after return of CB Jason Verrett.
Weaknesses: Injuries already creeping in yet again for team that hasn't stayed healthy last two years. Offensive line would have been better with rookie Forrest Lamp, who's lost for season with torn ACL. Perryman's absence leaves inexperience up middle likely until October. First-round pick Williams (back) still hasn't played, hampering his development. They're also going with rookie K Younghoe Koo, who must prove himself under pressure.
Fantasy Players to Watch: Rivers always puts up numbers. RB Melvin Gordon will get ample carries. WR Tyrell Williams could see plenty of balls with defenses focusing on Allen. Bosa, Ingram look unstoppable again with chance to rack up sacks in bunches.
Expectations: Although relocation season brings many uncertainties, major improvement seems possible for team that was crushed by injuries for final two seasons in San Diego. Lynn has brought strong leadership to first head coaching job, while Bradley and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt are seasoned tacticians. Chargers have ample offensive talent for Rivers, and Bradley's 4-3 defense should have personnel to succeed. Best scenario is 9-7 with shot at playoff berth, but AFC West probably is best NFL division.
19. Carolina Panters
CAROLINA PANTHERS (6-10)
New faces: DE Julius Peppers, CB Captain Munnerlyn, S Mike Adams, LT Matt Kalil, RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Russell Shepard, WR Curtis Samuel, LT Matt Kalil.
Key losses: FB Mike Tolbert, LT Michael Oher, RT Mike Remmers, WR Ted Ginn Jr., WR Philly Brown, LB A.J. Klein, S Tre Boston, DE Kony Ealy.
Strengths: Added Peppers to defense that was second in NFL in sacks in 2016. Still have two of game's best LBs in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. QB Cam Newton was league MVP two years ago and is motivated to prove himself after difficult 2016. Newton not expected to run as much this year after shoulder surgery. Have strong 1-2 punch at RB with starter Jonathan Stewart and shifty backup McCaffrey. Greg Olsen is only TE in history with three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons.. Added C Ryan Kalil's brother Matt to upgrade left tackle position.
Weaknesses: Second-year CBs James Bradberry and Daryl Worley are improving, but still young. Worley has struggled in preseason. Team's safeties — Kurt Coleman and Adams — aren't great in run support. Offensive line struggled to protect Newton last season, but played well in preseason. Depth, particularly on defense, could be problem. K Graham Gano needs to be more consistent.
Fantasy Players To Watch: With better O-line in front of him, Newton should have bounceback season after throwing 19 TDs and 14 INTs in 2016. McCaffrey may not start, but has potential to be dynamic playmaker with exceptional quickness and cutting ability. RB Jonathan Stewart still running strong at 30, should see more goal line carries. WR Kelvin Benjamin has looked exceptional in preseason and appears poised for breakout season. Olsen still reliable and huge part of offense.
Expectations: Panthers certainly have talent to win fourth NFC South title in five years and bounce back from disappointing year. Team was No. 1 in offense in 2015, but fell to middle of pack last year. Have added tremendous speed in McCaffrey, Samuel and Shepard to help ease burden on Newton. Despite losing coordinator Sean McDermott, defense could be better than ever after adding experienced veterans Peppers, Munnerlyn and Adams.
18. Houston Texans
HOUSTON TEXANS (10-8)
New faces: QB Deshaun Watson, RB D'Onta Foreman, LB Zach Cunningham, K Ka'imi Fairbairn, linebackers coach Mike Vrabel promoted to defensive coordinator.
Key losses: QB Brock Osweiler, CB A.J. Bouye, S Quintin Demps, offensive coordinator George Godsey.
Strengths: Houston's defensive front should be strength of team with three-time Defensive Player of Year J.J. Watt returning after missing most of last season after two back surgeries, and 2014 top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney coming off best season. Lamar Miller returns to lead strong group of running backs after rushing for 1,073 yards last season in first year in Houston. Group should get boost this year with addition of Foreman, last year's Doak Walker Award winner, who will be good complement to smaller Miller.
Weaknesses: Questions abound on offensive line with veteran left tackle Duane Brown still holding out and unit looking shaky in preseason. Texans need center Nick Martin, who missed all of rookie season with injury, to develop quickly and guard Xavier Su'a-Filo to improve if they hope to have more potent offense. Team is set at cornerback with veterans Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson, but Houston could be suspect at safety after losing Demps in free agency.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR DeAndre Hopkins, Miller, defense.
Expectations: If Watt is healthy and back to form, Houston's defense featuring him and Clowney should be among best. Question is if Tom Savage, expected to start, or Watson can step up and provide consistent quarterback play after years of problems at position. If Houston finally gets its QB situation solved and Miller has another good season, Texans could contend for championship after failing to get out of divisional round of playoffs in previous four postseason trips.
17. Indianapolis Colts
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (8-8)
New faces: QB Jacoby Brissett, DT Johnathan Hankins, S Malik Hooker, RB Marlon Mack, OLB Jabaal Sheard, OLB John Simon, CB Quincy Wilson, NT Al Woods.
Key losses: S Mike Adams, TE Dwayne Allen, ILB D'Qwell Jackson, DT Kendall Langford, OLB Robert Mathis, P Pat McAfee, OLB Erik Walden.
Strengths: Andrew Luck is among league's top quarterbacks when healthy. Pro Bowler T.Y Hilton was league's 2016 yards receiving champ, and TE Jack Doyle has become one of Luck's most trusted receivers. RB Frank Gore shows no signs of slowing down, and 44-year-old Adam Vinatieri remains model of consistency for kickers everywhere.
Weaknesses: Indy's young offensive line and completely revamped defense are still trying to get in sync. Preseason games have demonstrated benefits of emphasizing takeaways, but defensive coordinator Ted Monachino continues trying to find pass rushers. Colts' injury-riddled secondary will force rookies into major roles early. If Luck isn't healthy, QB becomes weak spot.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Hilton should continue to produce big numbers if Luck is making the throws. Same with Doyle's numbers, which are expected to improve now that he's starting. You know what you get with Vinatieri.
Expectations: Depend primarily on Luck's health. After Luck missed all offseason workouts, training camp and preseason, coach Chuck Pagano eagerly awaits any indication franchise quarterback will be ready for game action soon. Luck has been rehabbing from offseason surgery on throwing shoulder. With Luck, Colts could contend in weak AFC South. Without him, Indy could get top 10 draft pick.
16. Miami Dolphins
MIAMI DOLPHINS (10-7)
New faces: QB Jay Cutler, TE Julius Thomas, LB Lawrence Timmons, TE Anthony Fasano, first-round pick DE Charles Harris, DE William Hayes, S Nate Allen, S T.J. McDonald.
Key losses: Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, LT Branden Albert, TE Dion Sims, S Isa Abdul-Quddus, TE Jordan Cameron, DE Mario Williams, DT Earl Mitchell.
Strengths: Dolphins are loaded at skill positions, with 1,272-yard rusher Jay Ajayi and deep corps of pass targets led by two-time Pro Bowl WR Jarvis Landry. Coach Adam Gase and $10 million coaxed inconsistent Cutler out of retirement after QB Ryan Tannehill suffered knee injury that will sideline him for entire season. Cutler knows playbook and clicked with Gase when both were with Bears, and Cutler connected repeatedly during preseason games and practice with WR DeVante Parker, who appears primed for breakout season.
Weaknesses: OL is shaky, and that's with three-time Pro Bowl C Mike Pouncey, who has battled bad hips past several seasons. Back end of defense is also big question mark, and serious training camp injuries to rookie LB Raekwon McMillan, CB Tony Lippett and G Ted Larsen could prove costly.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Parker, WR Jakeem Grant.
Expectations: Holes on defense rule out challenging Patriots in AFC East. Law of averages also works against Dolphins, who in Gase's first season won their final seven games decided by TD or less. But young coach is widely regarded as rising star in NFL, and if he can bring out best in Cutler, Dolphins should score enough to finish .500 or better.
15. Denver. Broncos

Strengths: Pass rush, led by Von Miller even with Shane Ray (wrist) on IR and Shaquil Barrett (hip) working his way back. Secondary, even though Ward, founding member of "No Fly Zone," was cut after being supplanted by Justin Simmons.
Weaknesses: Tight end until rookie Jake Butt returns from knee surgery, which team hopes is by midseason. D-line only because Derek Wolfe (ankle), Jared Crick (back) and Zack Kerr (knee) are working their way back from injuries.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Demaryius Thomas, WR Emmanuel Sanders, RB C.J. Anderson, RB De'Angelo Henderson, WR/PR Isaiah McKenzie, Denver's defense.
Expectations: Return to playoffs after missing out last year for first time since 2010. Denver's defense again is topnotch and offense features four new starters up front and bolstered backfield for Mike McCoy's second stint as Broncos OC. Special teams features K Brandon McManus and P Riley Dixon plus speedy McKenzie returning punts and Cody Latimer kick returning.
14. Baltimore Ravens
BALTIMORE RAVENS (8-8)
New faces: WR Jeremy Maclin, CB Brandon Carr, S Tony Jefferson, RB Danny Woodhead, OT Austin Howard.
Key losses: OL Rick Wagner, FB Kyle Juszczyk, DT Timmy Jernigan, LB Elvis Dumervil, WR Steve Smith, OL Alex Lewis (injured reserve), TE Dennis Pitta (injured reserve), LB Zachary Orr (retired), C John Urschel (retired).
Strengths: Defense. Additions of Carr and Jefferson, along with top draft pick Marlon Humphrey, shores up backfield that sorely lacked depth last season, and opposing offenses will also find it hard to run against defensive front anchored by 335-pound Brandon Williams. Sleeker Terrell Suggs provides Baltimore with legitimate threat to quarterbacks who linger in pocket.
Weaknesses: Offensive line. After losing Wagner to free agency, Ravens were already hurting before Urschel retired and Lewis sustained season-ending shoulder injury. Addition of Howard should help, and GM Ozzie Newsome traded for two more linemen immediately before final cuts. Regardless, line lacks depth and can ill afford another injury, especially to Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda or LT Ronnie Stanley.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Justin Tucker is arguably best kicker in league, and he usually gets plenty of FG opportunities because of Baltimore's annual struggles in red zone. RB Terrance West will get majority of carries, so he should amass some decent yards on ground and account for most of team's rushing touchdowns.
Expectations: Ravens will get as far as defense carries them. QB Joe Flacco was spotty last year in return from knee surgery, and this season he missed all of training camp with bad back. That does not bode well for offense that lost Pitta (team-high 86 catches) and is operating with thin line. If Flacco can protect ball and Tucker can get points out of drives that fizzle within 40 yards of goal line, Baltimore might get back into postseason after going 5-11 in 2015 and 8-8 last year.
13. Arizona Cardinals
ARIZONA CARDINALS (7-8-1)
New Faces: ILB Karlos Dansby, K Phil Dawson, S Antoine Bethea, S Budda Baker, QB Blaine Gabbert, ILB Haason Reddick.
Key Losses: S Tony Jefferson, DT Calais Campbell, S D.J. Swearinger, ILB Kevin Minter, K Chandler Catanzaro, OG Earl Watford, CB Tyvon Branch.
Strengths: With David Johnson, Cardinals have one of best and certainly most versatile running backs. Team still is loaded at skill positions led by WR Larry Fitzgerald and, if healthy, John Brown. Carson Palmer returned to form second half of last season, and Arizona expects strong passing game if redesigned offensive line provides adequate protection for 37-year-old QB. Patrick Peterson and healthy Tyrann Mathieu make secondary one of strengths of defense that should be quicker and deeper this season.
Weaknesses: Offensive line now has D.J. Humphries at left tackle and Jared Veldheer switched to right tackle, position he hasn't played. Much depends on performance of new RG Evan Boehm, drafted year ago as center. On defense, second-year DT Robert Nkemdiche is part of new rotation on defensive line which will be absent dominant presence of Campbell, so run defense is question mark. Special teams were awful last year and will need improved play from large group of newcomers and holdovers.
Fantasy players to watch: Johnson, Brown, Arizona defense.
Expectations: Cardinals were worn down by high expectations year ago after going 13-3 and making NFC championship game in 2015 season. Coach Bruce Arians and players believe they still have talent to contend.
12. Minnesota Vikings
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-8)
New faces: LT Riley Reiff, RT Mike Remmers, RB Dalvin Cook, RB Latavius Murray, WR Michael Floyd, C Pat Elflein, DT Jaleel Johnson.
Key losses: RB Adrian Peterson, LT Matt Kalil, CB Captain Munnerlyn, WR/KR Cordarrelle Patterson, LG Alex Boone, LB Chad Greenway, RG Brandon Fusco.
Strengths: Defensive line, bookended by Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter and anchored by Linval Joseph, is one of best and deepest in league. Front four logged 34 of team's 41 sacks, which were fifth most in NFL. Secondary should still be challenging to pass against, with CB Xavier Rhodes and SS Harrison Smith in charge. If there's time for QB Sam Bradford to throw, all-time single-season completion percentage record holder has capable group of WRs with Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Floyd, when back from four-game suspension. Rookie Cook adds dynamic component to offense.
Weaknesses: Offensive line has only one returning starter, RG Joe Berger, and he was canter last two seasons. Reiff and Remmers should be upgrade from struggles endured at tackle spots in 2016, but by how much? Run blocking was just as much of problem as pass protection. Cook has lightning-like speed, but fumbling was occasionally issue at Florida State.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Cook, Diggs, Thielen.
Expectations: There's just as much talent, experience and swagger in place as in 2015, when Vikings surpassed Green Bay to win NFC North and started 5-0 in 2016. Front office has committed too much money on long-term contracts for stars on defense and free-agent deals for veterans on offensive line to be satisfied with finish short of playoffs. Regaining division title from Packers will be difficult, though, and limitations of offensive line could again be team's demise.
11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (9-7)
New Faces: WR DeSean Jackson, DE Chris Baker, TE O.J. Howard, S Justin Evans, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, K Nick Folk, WR Chris Godwin, S J.J. Wilcox.
Key Losses: QB Mike Glennon, WR Russell Shepard, LB Daryl Smith, CB Alterraun Verner, S Bradley McDougald.
Strengths: Bucs go as Jameis Winston goes. With additional playmakers — Jackson, Howard, Godwin — around young QB, coach Dirk Koetter is counting on offense being more explosive.
Weaknesses: Despite making strikes defensively following slow start last season, absence of consistent pass rush remains concern. Team hasn't had player finish with double-digit sacks since Simeon Rice in 2005. Five-time Pro Bowl DT Gerald McCoy welcomes addition of Baker on line also featuring Robert Ayers Jr. Second-year DE Noah Spence can make difference, too.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Winston; Jackson, WR Mike Evans; TE Cameron Brate; RB Doug Martin, who begins season on reserve/suspended list while serving remaining three games of ban for violating NFL policy on performance enhancers.
Expectations: After improving from six wins to nine in Winston's second season, next logical step would seem to be contending for NFC South title, as well as team's first playoff berth since 2007. But if Bucs have learned anything during long drought, it's that nothing's guaranteed, even with roster that seems talented enough to win. Winston threw for more than 8,100 yards and 50 touchdowns over past two years. He's also thrown 33 interceptions. Improving on last year's 9-7 finish won't be as simple as curbing turnovers and scoring more points, either. Inconsistency on defense has been problem, though Koetter is confident club's headed in right direction after bolstering depth at linebacker and safety.
10. Oakland Raiders
OAKLAND RAIDERS (12-5)
New faces: RB Marshawn Lynch, TE Jared Cook, OL Marshall Newhouse, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, QB EJ Manuel, defensive assistant John Pagano, rookies CB Gareon Conley, S Obi Melifonwu, DT Eddie Vanderdoes, LB Marquel Lee, DT Treyvon Hester.
Key losses: RB Latavius Murray, LB Malcolm Smith, LB Perry Riley, DT Dan Williams, OL Austin Howard, OL Menelik Watson, RB Taiwan Jones, OC Bill Musgrave.
Strengths: Offense led team to 12 wins and playoffs last year. QB Derek Carr emerged as one of top passers in Year 3 and led seven fourth-quarter comebacks. Offensive line allowed league-low 18 sacks behind trio of Pro Bowlers (LT Donald Penn, RG Kelechi Osemele, C Rodney Hudson). Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree provide capable targets on outside. Cook should improve production at tight end. Lynch came out of retirement to play in hometown and has shown burst in preseason.
Weaknesses: Defense full of holes despite presence of Defensive Player of Year Khalil Mack and fellow edge rusher Bruce Irvin. Interior rush should be improved with healthy Mario Edwards Jr. and Vanderdoes. Still many questions at linebacker, secondary. Lee looked like fifth-round pick in preseason and might not be answer at MLB. Sean Smith struggled again at cornerback. Conley missed all of preseason with shin injury. Pagano expected to improve communication on back end, but no progress evident in preseason.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Amari Cooper. Cooper put up big numbers in second season with 83 catches for 1,153 yards; touchdowns could get boost from only five last season. Cooper rarely targeted in red zone with five catches on 13 throws with no TDs. He bulked up this offseason to help get off line better against press coverage and outmuscle defenders for contested catches in hopes of red zone boost.
Expectations: Raiders enter season with hopes of challenging New England for AFC dominance and giving Oakland championship before team leaves for Las Vegas in 2020. First must figure out way to get past Kansas City in division after getting swept last two years. Raiders ended 13-year playoff drought only to lose opener at Houston with Carr sidelined by broken leg. With Carr healthy, offense could be even more powerful this season. Beast Mode looked fresh in preseason for possible boost to power run game. Raiders could contend if defense improves. Oakland allowed NFL-worst 61 completions of at least 20 yards last season and ranked last with 25 sacks.
9. New York Giants
NEW YORK GIANTS (11-6)
New faces: WR Brandon Marshall, TE Evan Engram, DT Dalvin Tomlinson, PK Aldrick Rosas, QB Geno Smith, OL D.J. Fluker, TE Rhett Ellison.
Key losses: DT Jonathan Hankins, RT Marshall Newhouse, PK Robbie Gould.
Strengths: This is going to be one of best defenses in league, with S Landon Collins, DEs Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul, and CB Janoris Jenkins looking very good in camp. QB Eli Manning has more options than Odell Beckham Jr. to target.
Weaknesses: Offensive line is major question mark, especially left tackle Ereck Flowers and whoever plays right guard, John Jerry or Brett Jones. Rosas did everything right in winning placekicking job from veteran Mike Nugent, but you never know with 22-year-old who has never kicked in regular-season game. Second-year RB Paul Perkins has much to prove as starter.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Beckham is going to come close to 100 catches and double digits in touchdowns, and rookie TE Engram is going to produce. If there is someone on defense to take, it's Collins. Defense as whole is worth it.
Expectations: Ben McAdoo got Giants back to playoffs for first time since 2011 season in first season as head coach. More is expected this year, even if line disappoints. Defense can carry this team like it did a year ago. Only thing that severely changes prospects is injury to Manning. Uncertain that Smith or rookie Davis Webb can adequately replace two-time Super Bowl MVP.
8. Kansas City Chiefs
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (12-5)
New faces: LB Reggie Ragland, QB Patrick Mahomes II, RB Kareem Hunt, LB Kevin Pierre-Louise, DT Bennie Logan.
Key losses: WR Jeremy Maclin, RB Jamaal Charles, DT Dontari Poe, LB D.J. Alexander, LB Josh Mauga.
Strengths: Offensive line should be solid after returning every starter from last season, while TE Travis Kelce is among NFL's best at his position. Veteran group of linebackers and defensive backs should keep Kansas City near top of league in most defensive statistical categories.
Weaknesses: Losing mammoth DT Dontari Poe in free agency hurt defensive line that already struggled to stop run, while release of WR Jeremy Maclin in salary cap-saving move left big hole on offense. Chiefs have few pass catchers with experience, instead turning to second-year pro Tyreek Hill and several rookies and newcomers to fill void. Running back became problematic after Spencer Ware went down with likely season-ending knee injury in third preseason game against Seattle.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Hunt should get majority of touches and provides versatility catching passes out of backfield. Hill is coming off breakout rookie season but will not handle kickoff return duties, an area in which he shined last year. Kelce dealt with minor knee injury during training camp but should be Chiefs' top pass catcher this season.
Expectations: Chiefs return most key players from AFC West title team last season. QB Alex Smith needs to impress to earn final year of his contract, otherwise Mahomes is waiting in wings. Maclin's release was big blow to offense already starved of playmakers. Biggest questions on defense concern health: Houston missed time last season with persistent knee trouble, Johnson is returning from ruptured Achilles tendon, and SS Eric Berry dealt with nagging heel injury in training camp after signing $78 million, six-year contract in February.
7. Tennessee Titans
TENNESSEE TITANS (9-7)
New faces: WR Corey Davis, CB Adoree Jackson, WR Eric Decker, DT Sylvester Williams, WR Taywan Taylor, CB Logan Ryan, S Johnathan Cyprien, TE Jonnu Smith, LB Erik Walden, LB Daren Bates, G/C Tim Lelito, S Brynden Trawick.
Key losses: CB Jason McCourty, WR Kendall Wright, S Rashad Johnson, NT Al Woods.
Strengths: Pro Bowl RB DeMarco Murray led AFC in rushing, and offensive line returns all five starters. QB Marcus Mariota is healthy after breaking right leg Dec. 24, and took first snaps of training camp. Titans revamped wide receivers group, giving Mariota more options for quarterback whose 95.6 passer rating was 10th in NFL last season. Titans ranked second in NFL against run and sixth with 40 sacks.
Weaknesses: Secondary. Tennessee was better than only two teams defending passes last season, and secondary could feature four new starters from year ago thanks to Ryan, Jackson and Cyprien, with S Kevin Byard set to start his second NFL season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Mariota, Murray, RB Derrick Henry, Davis, Decker, WR Rishard Matthews, TE Delanie Walker.
Expectations: Titans made six-win improvement from NFL-worst 3-13 in 2015, just missing out on AFC South title won by Houston. Earning franchise's first playoff berth since 2008 and first postseason victory since January 2004 in coach Mike Mularkey's second full season tops priorities.
6. Atlanta Falcons
ATLANTA FALCONS (13-6)
New faces: DT Dontari Poe, DE Jack Crawford, FB Derrick Coleman, WR Andre Roberts, rookie DE Takkarist McKinley, offensive coordinator Steve Sarkasian.
Key losses: DT Ra'Shede Hageman (commissioner's exempt list), DT Jonathan Babineaux, OG Chris Chester, FB Patrick DiMarco, TE Jacob Tamme, LB Paul Worrilow, DE Dwight Freeney, WR Eric Weems, SS Dashon Goldson, LB Philip Wheeler.
Strengths: Atlanta returns most of its playmakers from offense that led NFL in scoring in 2016. Quarterback Matt Ryan, 2016 MVP, leads balanced attack that includes running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman and receivers Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Taylor Gabriel. Young defense is on rise after starting four rookies and four second-year players in 2016.
Weaknesses: Depth which was exposed in Super Bowl collapse still appeared to be concern in 0-4 preseason. Starting defense should be improved but only one or two injuries, especially in secondary, could lead to severe dropoff. There is still question at right guard, where Ben Garland and Wes Schweitzer alternated through preseason in attempt to replace Chester. Rotation could continue into regular season, perhaps harming continuity that was 2016 strength when Falcons were only team to start same five on line throughout season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Ryan, Freeman and Jones are obvious. Second-year TE Austin Hooper could be breakout player. Coleman's stock would rise if Freeman, who missed two preseason games with concussion but should be ready for regular season, has another injury. Sanu also could be fantasy bargain.
Expectations: Falcons coach Dan Quinn has stressed focus on future instead of looking back to try to gain motivation from Super Bowl collapse. He also has told players to worry about tough NFC South instead of thinking only of return to big game. There was almost no talk of Super Bowl during training camp, but anything short of another long playoff run would be disappointment.
5. Seattle Seahawks
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (11-6-1)
New faces: DL Sheldon Richardson, CB Justin Coleman, OL Luke Joeckel, RB Eddie Lacy, LB Michael Wilhoite, K Blair Walsh, OL Oday Aboushi, DB Bradley McDougald, rookies OL Ethan Pocic, CB Shaquill Griffin.
Key losses: DE Cassius Marsh, DT Ahytba Rubin, OL George Fant, K Steven Hauschka, OL Garry Gilliam, LB Brock Coyle.
Strengths: Defense is still elite and may have most depth since Super Bowl winning season. Addition of Richardson to defensive line may push Seattle over top. LB Bobby Wagner led NFL in tackles last season, S Earl Thomas is recovered from broken leg, and CB Richard Sherman and DE Michael Bennett remain among best in league at positions. QB Russell Wilson also fully healthy after playing through knee, ankle injuries last season, and has TE Jimmy Graham, WR Doug Baldwin as primary targets.
Weaknesses: Offensive line remains biggest question, especially after loss of LT Fant due to season-ending knee injury. Run game has potential, but both Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy have durability questions. Cornerback opposite Sherman closely watched with Deshawn Shead recovering from major knee injury.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Wilson, Graham, Rawls, WR Tyler Lockett, K Blair Walsh.
Expectations: Anything less than playoff spot and being in Super Bowl conversation is considered disappointment. Seattle still viewed as favorite in NFC West even with defense aging and some offseason drama. Wilson has looked superb in preseason and healthy return of Thomas is significant for defense. Favorable schedule means Seahawks should be in running all season for best in NFC.
4. Dallas Cowboys
DALLAS COWBOYS (13-4)
New faces: DE Taco Charlton, CB Nolan Carroll, CB Chidobe Awuzie, CB Jourdan Lewis, WR/KR Ryan Switzer, QB Cooper Rush.
Key losses: QB Tony Romo, S Barry Church, CB Brandon Carr, CB Morris Claiborne, DT Terrell McClain.
Strengths: One of best offenses in league with rookie sensations QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliott heading into second season behind one of best offensive lines. While Romo is listed as loss, all indications are Cowboys in good hands with Prescott, who looked strong in preseason after taking over for injured Romo and keeping job last year. Prescott may have to carry more load early if Elliott's six-game NFL suspension over domestic violence incident is upheld. Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley are top WRs.
Weaknesses: Pass rush remains top concern for mediocre defense. Charlton didn't distinguish himself in preseason, and fellow DEs David Irving and Damontre Moore will be suspended to start regular season. Cowboys could use breakout year from DeMarcus Lawrence (second-round pick in 2014). All-Pro Sean Lee is top defensive player, and Cowboys eager to see what fellow LB Jaylon Smith can do after missing rookie season recovering from college knee injury.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Elliott tops list after leading NFL with 1,631 yards rushing. Prescott might be overvalued because Cowboys' offense might not lead to prolific passing numbers that can rival league leaders. Bryant could be poised for big year after first full offseason since All-Pro year in 2014. K Dan Bailey among most reliable in NFL, including from 50 yards and beyond. Darren McFadden could be good play as long as Elliott is out.
Expectations: Super Bowl hopes are realistic after Prescott and Elliott led Cowboys to top seed in NFC before divisional playoff loss to Green Bay. Prescott is quick to say sensational rookie season means nothing as he seeks to lead franchise's first long playoff run since last title during 1995 season. Some young players from defense-first draft will need to come through if Cowboys are to have better balance between units.
3. Green Bay Packers
GREEN BAY PACKERS (12-7)
New faces: TE Martellus Bennett, TE Lance Kendricks, RG Jahri Evans, OLB Ahmad Brooks, DL Ricky Jean-Francois, CB Davon House, rookie DBs Kevin King and Josh Jones, rookie RBs Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones.
Key losses: RB Eddie Lacy, TE Jared Cook, RG T.J. Lang, OL JC Tretter, LB Julius Peppers, S Micah Hyde.
Strengths: In prime, QB Aaron Rodgers got two new weapons in offseason with additions of Bennett and Kendricks. Opposing defenses already had headaches matching up with WRs Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb. Starting OL is solid again, even with veteran Evans replacing Pro Bowler Lang. RB Ty Montgomery's pass-catching ability another matchup issue for defenses. DL Mike Daniels anchors front, while Morgan Burnett and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix might be one of top safety tandems in league. LB Clay Matthews coming off injury-filled season, but remains defense's top playmaker.
Weaknesses: Beefed up cornerback position by bringing back House for second tour in Green Bay and drafting King, adding length to secondary. Will it be enough to shore porous pass coverage that torched Packers for most of 2016? Packers hope Brooks improves depth behind starters Matthews and Nick Perry at outside linebacker. Depth also concern on offensive line, where Packers cannot afford long-term injury after inconsistent camp for backups. Running back position young and relatively inexperienced with converted receiver Montgomery being backed by three drafted rookies.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Addition of Bennett spices up attack, but offense already provided numerous options for Rodgers. With questions about run game, Rodgers in line for another huge season.
Expectations: Getting to Super Bowl will always be realistic goal with Rodgers at quarterback, though clock is ticking. He turns 34 in December. General manager Ted Thompson active — for Packers — in free agency with smart, relatively economic moves. If Packers can establish semblance of run game and shore up cornerback position and generate enough pass rush, they'll be tough to beat. Tough to beat anyway with offense built to win shootouts. Winning NFC North and securing home-field advantage is key, and Green Bay will be tested early by opening season against NFC powers Seattle and Atlanta.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (13-6)
New faces: CB Joe Haden, LB T.J. Watt, TE Vance McDonald, RB James Conner, WR Juju Smith-Schuster, CB Cam Sutton.
Key losses: LB Lawrence Timmons, RB DeAngelo Williams, TE Ladarius Green, WR Markus Wheaton, WR Sammie Coates, LB Jarvis Jones.
Strengths: Offense. "Killer Bs" — WR Antonio Brown, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Martavis Bryant and QB Ben Roethlisberger — are reunited following Bryant's return from yearlong drug suspension. Throw in one of best offensive lines in league and Pittsburgh should have no trouble putting up points. DE Cam Heyward is back from torn pectoral to anchor defensive line that improved as 2016 wore on.
Weaknesses: Secondary was exposed in loss to New England in AFC championship game last year. Coach Mike Tomlin wants more physical approach in 2017 and late addition of Haden gives Steelers proven defender (when healthy) to line up opposite Artie Burns. Nickelback and safety are up in air with Sutton likely to start regular season on injured reserve and Mike Mitchell recovering from lower-body injury that forced him to miss all of training camp. Even modest step forward by group could help Steelers challenge Patriots for top seed in AFC.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Brown is coming off the most productive four-year stretch by a receiver in NFL history (481 receptions for 6,315 yards and 43 touchdowns) and is eager to show the $72 million contract extension he signed was money well spent. Bell is arguably the best all-around back in the league and Bryant's big-play potential ( Roethlisberger and fantasy owners plenty of options.
Expectations: Anything less than a trip to Minneapolis in early February will be a disappointment. Roethlisberger flirted with retirement in the spring before coming back for a 14th season and is working on a year-to-year basis from now on. He badly wants a third Super Bowl ring and the rare free agency splurge on Haden address the team's biggest need. If healthy, the Steelers represent the AFC's best shot at dethroning New England.
1. New England
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (17-2)
New faces: CB Stephon Gilmore, WR Brandin Cooks, RB Mike Gillislee, TE Dwayne Allen.
Key losses: TE Martellus Bennett, RB LeGarrette Blount, DE Jabaal Sheard, CB Logan Ryan, DE Chris Long.
Strengths: QB Tom Brady has little to prove after winning fifth Super Bowl ring last season, but he doesn't look to be slowing down as he prepares for 18th NFL season at age 40. He will also benefit from having intact offensive line from 2016 that did much better job protecting him than in 2015. New England won't have Blount, last season's rushing touchdowns leader, but is hoping to get solid production from trio of Super Bowl hero James White, Dion Lewis, and Gillislee. Same is true for Cooks, expected to provide spark to already potent offense. Plus, star TE Rob Gronkowski is healthy after truncated 2016 season.
Weaknesses: Patriots were dealt biggest blow of preseason when Julian Edelman was lost for season to right knee injury. But they added depth by trading third-string QB Jacoby Brissett to Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett. New England also has issue to address at punt returner after Cyrus Jones joined Edelman on injured reserve with own right knee injury. Defensively, there is void to fill on edge, where Sheard and Long provided production last season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: With so many weapons to throw to even without Edelman, Brady should be numbers producer in 2017. Even with his four-game "Deflategate" suspension he managed 3,554 yards passing and 28 touchdowns. Cooks is also in position to keep producing at high rate coming off back-to-back 1,100-yard receiving seasons.
Expectations: New England shouldn't have any issue in weak AFC East, where it has won eight straight division titles and 13 of last 14. Patriots have some issues to sort out defensively, but will get early idea of how big those are, facing two 2016 playoff teams in their first three games.
32. Chicago Bears
CHICAGO BEARS (3-13)
New faces: QB Mike Glennon, QB Mitchell Trubisky, QB Mark Sanchez, WR Markus Wheaton, TE Dion Sims, CB Prince Amukamara, CB Marcus Cooper, S Quintin Demps.
Key losses: QB Jay Cutler, WR Alshon Jeffery, WR Eddie Royal, CB Tracy Porter.
Strengths: Bears believe they addressed QB spot for long term in offseason. Could eventually have flexibility to make trade if Glennon performs well while Trubisky develops as they hope. RB Jordan Howard looked like steal as fifth-round pick last season, finishing second to Dallas' Ezekiel Elliott with 1,313 yards rushing.
Weaknesses: Lack of depth was big issue last season, with 19 players finishing on injured reserve. Bears believe they could have solid front seven with NT Eddie Goldman, DE Akiem Hicks and LBs Danny Trevathan and Leonard Floyd, if they stay healthy. That would help questionable secondary after Chicago finished with league-low 11 takeaways last season. With Jeffery gone, Kevin White needs to show he can be No. 1 WR after being limited to four games through first two seasons because of injuries.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jordan Howard, White.
Expectations: Bears need to show they're headed in right direction coming off worst season in decades. With one playoff appearance since 2006 team's Super Bowl run, patience running thin in Chicago. Crowds shrank in Bears' third straight losing season. Heat could mount on Fox — signed through 2018 — if team doesn't progress. Glennon gets chance to start after backing up Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay. Sanchez in No. 2 spot, with Bears insisting they will bring No. 2 overall draft pick Trubisky along slowly. But Trubisky dazzled at times in preseason and sparked QB controversy in Chicago.
31. New York Jets
NEW YORK JETS (5-11)
New faces: QB Josh McCown, WR Jermaine Kearse, CB Morris Claiborne, S Jamal Adams, S Marcus Maye, OL Kelvin Beachum, LB Demario Davis, DL Kony Ealy, K Chandler Catanzaro, offensive coordinator John Morton, outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene.
Key losses: DL Sheldon Richardson, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker, CB Darrelle Revis, C Nick Mangold, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, LT Ryan Clady, RT Breno Giacomini, LB David Harris, QB Geno Smith, K Nick Folk, S Calvin Pryor, S Marcus Gilchrist, CB Dexter McDougle, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.
Strengths: Defensive line remains one of best in league — even with trade of Richardson to Seattle for WR Kearse — with Leonard Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson and Steve McLendon leading way. Beyond that, much of rest of roster is work in progress.
Weaknesses: Quarterback situation uninspiring with journeyman McCown running offense while Jets wait for Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty to progress enough to take over. Offensive line shaky at best and struggled throughout preseason. Kearse immediately steps in as No. 1 receiver, with Robby Anderson behind him and lots of unproven youngsters after that. Inexperienced but promising rookie safeties Adams and Maye highlight revamped secondary, which needs to be much better than alarmingly leaky unit from last season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Anderson was fantasy surprise as rookie, catching 42 passes for 587 yards and two TDs. Can stretch field with excellent speed and should see even more targets with Quincy Enunwa out with neck injury and departures of Marshall and Decker. RB Bilal Powell is versatile threat out of backfield and could see increased carries despite presence of Matt Forte, who could also pile up catches in Morton's West Coast-style offense.
Expectations: Many outside facility think Jets are in for long season, and could struggle to win even one game. Players insist they'll be better than expected. But tough schedule and inexperience could have Todd Bowles coaching for job, while GM Mike Maccagnan keeps eye on building for future. Top-5 draft pick next April appears likely.
30. Cleveland Browns
CLEVELAND BROWNS (1-15)
New faces: QB DeShone Kizer, DE Myles Garrett, C JC Tretter, RG Kevin Zeitler, WR Kenny Britt, S Jabrill Peppers.
Key losses: WR Terrelle Pryror, CB Joe Haden, TE Gary Barnidge, QBs Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III, ILB Demario Davis, WR Andrew Hawkins.
Strengths: Browns committed more than $120 million, including $64.5 million guaranteed, during offseason on revamped offensive line. Tretter and Zeitler improve unit anchored by 10-time Pro Bowler Joe Thomas, who has never missed play in career and been on field for nearly 10,000 consecutive snaps. Thomas, though, has never made playoffs and that streak won't end this season. As long as group stays injury free, Browns should be able to run ball and protect Kizer, who has shown good pocket presence.
Weaknesses: Team's surprising decision to release Haden, two-time Pro Bowler who signed with Steelers, has weakened secondary that already had major question marks. Jamar Taylor, long-time Tennessee starter Jason McCourty and Briean Boddy-Calhoun will rotate at corner/nickel spots with Peppers, who will also returns punts and kickoffs, and Derrick Kindred at safety spots. That's not bad, but injury or two could make things real tough.
Fantasy Players To Watch: RB Isaiah Crowell ran for 952 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and 12.3 attempts per game. Coach Hue Jackson lamented not giving Crowell more touches, so his numbers could increase, and 24-year-old is in contract year, so he's plenty motivated. RB Duke Johnson had 53 catches last season and could have more prominent role in offense.
Expectations: If Kizer, 27th different starting quarterback since 1999, can hold his own and stay healthy, Browns should win four or five games. Jackson's plan to run ball and play aggressively on defense will help protect second-round pick from Notre Dame. As analytics-friendly front office continues to retool roster, biggest need is offensive playmakers. Second-year WR Corey Coleman must take major step forward and become dependable third-down threat. Owner Jimmy Haslam is talking patience with Jackson, who has to hope he gets enough time to further develop his plan.
29. Los Angeles Rams
LOS ANGELES RAMS (4-12)
New faces: Coach Sean McVay, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, WR Sammy Watkins, WR Robert Woods, LT Andrew Whitworth, LB Connor Barwin, C John Sullivan, CB Kayvon Webster.
Key losses: WR Kenny Britt, TE Lance Kendricks, OL Greg Robinson, WR Brian Quick, S T.J. McDonald, DL William Hayes, DL Dominique Easley (injury), QB Case Keenum.
Strengths: Defense should remain solid in Phillips' new scheme. D-line has looked sharp in preseason despite depletion, and will get big boost when (if?) All-Pro DT Aaron Donald ends holdout. Watkins, Woods provide much-improved targets for Jared Goff. Offensive line appears to be upgraded significantly. Team energy has improved with arrival of McVay, youngest head coach in modern NFL history.
Weaknesses: Offense still must prove its competence after two terrible seasons. McVay doesn't have wealth of personnel options, but is building scheme to take advantage of few strengths. Goff under big spotlight after unimpressive rookie campaign, but is dedicated to improvement. Defensive depth looks sketchy, particularly on line and in secondary.
Fantasy Players To Watch: RB Todd Gurley looks rejuvenated in preseason after inexplicably poor relocation season. Watkins will get ample opportunity to pad stats in potential contract year. TE Tyler Higbee could be sleeper with McVay expected to target tight ends with many passes. CB Trumaine Johnson will be out to prove his worth with big contract on tap for 2018.
Expectations: After 12-year playoff absence and 13 straight non-winning seasons, postseason return seems like long shot in McVay's first year. More realistic to expect incremental offensive improvement, groundwork set for future. If Donald's holdout lingers deep into season, future of franchise could take hit. Best guess for finish is 6-10.
28. Buffalo Bills

Weaknesses: Receiver position is completely transformed and lacks downfield threat after Watkins traded to Rams, and experience after Boldin abruptly retired two weeks after signing with team last month. QB Tyrod Taylor's top targets projected to be Matthews, acquired from Philadelphia, Holmes and Jones. Secondary is also entirely revamped with free-agent-addition Hyde taking over as play caller, while adjusting to new scheme installed by McDermott and coordinator Leslie Frazier. Offensive line has shown signs of struggling in pass protection, especially with starting LT Cordy Glenn missing most of offseason with sore left foot.
Fantasy Players To Watch: McCoy is left as Bills' only proven offensive threat and expected to be heavily involved as both rusher and receiver in new coordinator Rick Dennison's plans. Matthews is worth consideration as only proven receiver, though missed past month with chipped sternum. Matthews expected to be ready for opener.
Expectations: Have plummeted over past month with new regime continuing offseason purge in exchange for draft picks. With Williams cut on Sunday, roster features just 16 players team drafted, including six rookies this year, leaving team in jeopardy of extending NFL's longest active playoff drought to 18 seasons. Only 25 players return from last season, including OT Seantrel Henderson and WR Walter Powell, who open season serving NFL suspensions.
27. Jacksonville Jaguars
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (3-13)
New faces: CB A.J. Bouye, DE Calais Campbell, SS Barry Church, RB Leonard Fournette, LT Cam Robinson.
Key losses: CB Prince Amukamara, LT Kelvin Beachum, SS Johnathan Cyprien, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, DT Roy Miller, TE Julius Thomas.
Strengths: Landing a top draft pick? Jaguars have chosen in top 10 for NFL-record 10 consecutive years, although none of the picks have made Pro Bowl and only Tyson Alualu (2010) got second contract. They seemingly hit on CB Jalen Ramsey last season, so his emergence along with additions of Campbell and Bouye (paid duo $56 million guaranteed) should make defense more formidable. Lack of pass rush and turnovers were huge issues in 2016, so Jags counting on more pressure from young edge rushers Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler leading to more mistakes from opposing QBs.
Weaknesses: Nearly every offensive position, especially quarterback and offensive line. Jaguars settled on QB Blake Bortles to start — partly because of scrambling ability behind shaky line — and he'll surely be on short leash. Line likely No. 1 issue again. Top executive Tom Coughlin failed to adequately upgrade unit in draft and free agency, huge miscalculation considering plan was to pound ball with Fournette and Chris Ivory.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Allen Robinson, who made Pro Bowl in 2015 following 1,400-yard, 14-touchdown campaign, enters contract year trying to rebound from disappointing season. Robinson was team's best offensive player in training camp.
Expectations: Coughlin seemingly botched several key decisions, none bigger than picking up fifth-year option in Bortles' rookie contract. Move would cost franchise $19 million in 2018 if Bortles sustains major injury this season. QB play and Coughlin's miscalculations likely will result in another year of double-digit losses and another high draft pick.
26. San Francisco 49ers
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (2-14)
New faces: Coach Kyle Shanahan, QB Brian Hoyer, WR Pierre Garcon, WR Marquise Goodwin, WR Aldrick Robinson, DE Elvis Dumervil, DT Earl Mitchell, RB Kyle Juszczyk, OL Laken Tomlinson, K Robbie Gould, DC Robert Saleh; rookies DL Solomon Thomas, LB Reuben Foster, QB C.J. Beathard, TE George Kittle.

Also used first-round pick this season on Foster, who shined in preseason. Teams with NaVorro Bowman, who looks to regain All-Pro form after Achilles tendon injury cut last season short.
Weaknesses: Team coming off two-win season has plenty, but key could be running back. Carlos Hyde has failed to develop into back Niners hoped for when they drafted him in second round in 2014. Hyde missed nearly one-third of his games and rushed for just 1,791 yards in three seasons. Behind Hyde are undrafted rookie Matt Breida and journeyman Raheem Mostert.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Goodwin. Had just 49 catches in four seasons with Buffalo but developed immediate chemistry with Hoyer. Speedster looks to show he's more than just deep threat and could become Hoyer's top option in passing game.
Expectations: Niners at start of what could be long rebuild after precipitous fall in recent years from team that made three straight trips to NFC title games from 2011-13 under coach Jim Harbaugh to one that won just two games in 2016. Shanahan fourth coach in as many years, following one-year tenures by Jim Tomsula, Chip Kelly. Shanahan given six-year deal along with new GM John Lynch in sign organization might finally show patience. That could lead to growing pains this season as San Francisco tries to lay foundation for future success. Hoyer will be QB but is likely little more than bridge to longer-term solution that could come next offseason, or from promising rookie Beathard. Few proven playmakers on offense with almost all of recent high draft picks having been used on defensive players or offensive line. Main goal this season will be improving on last year's win total and identify some building blocks for better days ahead.
25. Cincinnati Bengals
CINCINNATI BENGALS (6-9-1)
New faces: WR John Ross, RB Joe Mixon, LB Kevin Minter, K Randy Bullock.
Key losses: LT Andrew Whitworth, RG Kevin Zeitler, CB Adam "Pacman" Jones (suspended by NFL for first game), LB Vontaze Burfict (suspended for first three games).
Strengths: Passing game. It struggled last season after losing WR A.J. Green, TE Tyler Eifert and RB Giovani Bernard, but all are back from significant injuries. QB Andy Dalton had another solid season despite depleted cast around him. CBs Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, William Jackson III and Darqueze Dennard are first-round picks providing great depth. Mixon adds another dual threat out of backfield.
Weaknesses: Offensive line lost its top two players in free agency. Tackles Cedric Ogbuehi and Jake Fisher are inexperienced. Dalton was among most-sacked passers in NFL even with Whitworth and Zeitler anchoring line. On defense, Bengals are counting on young players like LB Nick Vigil to grow quickly into more prominent roles.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Green remains one of NFL's most consistently productive and dangerous receivers. Mixon should grow into bigger role as season goes on, and he's receiving threat out of backfield.
Expectations: Bengals ended run of five straight playoff seasons and first-round losses. Whether they return to postseason depends on whether offense stays healthy, line can give Dalton time, and young players on defense grow up fast. Coach Marvin Lewis is 0-7 in postseason and failed to get contract extension in offseason — his deal ends after 2017. Whether he sticks around depends upon on if he can get Cincinnati back to playoffs and finally win one with roster that has more questions than others in recent years.
24. New Orleans Saints
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (7-9)
New faces: RB Adrian Peterson, RG Larry Warford, LB A.J. Klein, WR Ted Ginn Jr., DE Alex Okafor, CB Marshon Lattimore, OT Ryan Ramczyk, S Marcus Williams, RB Alvin Kamara, LB Manti T'eo.
Key losses: WR Brandin Cooks, DT Nick Fairley, RB Tim Hightower, S Jairus Byrd.
Strengths: Passing game led by QB Drew Brees, who has passed for 5,000 or more yards in four of past six seasons, and no fewer than 4,870 yards in that span. His top target is Michael Thomas, big receiver with strong hands coming off exceptional rookie campaign. Running game also appears improved with additions of Peterson and Kamara to incumbent starter Mark Ingram, who is coming off best season. Thomas Morstead's booming punts and increasingly refined accuracy should provide field position advantages as well.
Weaknesses: Defense appeared much improved during preseason, but against offenses running basic schemes with mix of reserves and regulars that won't resemble what Saints will face in regular season. So there remains much to prove for team that fielded worst defense against pass in NFL last season, and which struggled with pass rush.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Brees is always strong choice; Thomas, Ingram.
Expectations: Saints have chance to contend if they have good fortune with injuries, and if young players get up to speed quickly, particularly on defense. In each of past three seasons, they went 7-9 with number of close losses, so they weren't that far off. Then again, NFC South looks tougher with NFC champs Atlanta at top, Carolina trying to regain Super Bowl form of two seasons ago, and Tampa Bay looking like rising team.
23. Philadelphia Eagles
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (7-9)
New faces: WRs Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith, CB Ronald Darby, RB LeGarrette Blount, QB Nick Foles, DT Tim Jernigan, DE Chris Long, OL Chance Warmack, CB Patrick Robinson, S Corey Graham; rookies DE Derek Barnett, CB Rasul Douglas, WRs Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson, RBs Donnel Pumphrey and Corey Clement.
Key losses: DT Bennie Logan, DE Connor Barwin, LS Jon Dorenbos, CBs Leodis McKelvin and Nolan Carroll.
Strengths: Defensive line of Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Tim Jernigan, Barnett, Vinny Curry and Beau Allen is among best in NFL. Jeffery, Smith and rookie WRs upgraded position. TEs Zach Ertz, Brent Celek and Trey Burton are solid.
Weaknesses: Uncertainty at RB with aging veterans Blount and Darren Sproles, oft-injured Wendell Smallwood and two rookies. Don't have shutdown CB. Lack LB depth.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jeffery, Ertz, Agholor, all of whom should benefit from Carson Wentz's projected maturity.
Expectations: Eagles surrounded Wentz with veteran talent on one-year contracts to compete in NFC East while still building roster with young players and draft picks. If defense improves, offense plays to its potential and key players stay healthy, they should stay in playoffs mix.
22. Washington Redksins
WASHINGTON REDSKINS (8-7-1)
New faces: WR Terrelle Pryor, DL Stacy McGee, DL Terrell McClain, LB Zach Brown, S D.J. Swearinger.
Key losses: Offensive coordinator Sean McVay, WR DeSean Jackson, WR Pierre Garcon, DE Chris Baker, LB Trent Murphy (injured).
Strengths: TE Jordan Reed gives QB Kirk Cousins matchup nightmare in passing game and offensive line features one of league's best left tackles in Trent Williams. CB Josh Norman is big-play threat in secondary and LB Ryan Kerrigan in pass rush as defense should be improved under new coordinator Greg Manusky.
Weaknesses: Lack of familiarity between Cousins and WRs Pryor and Josh Doctson could hurt, especially if RB Robert Kelley can't generate consistent ground attack. Third-down and red-zone play particularly on defense cost playoff spot last year and could be problem again.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Cousins is coming off back-to-back 4,000-yard passing seasons, Reed is good bet to produce big numbers if healthy, and WR Jamison Crowder will have bigger role after 67 catches for 847 yards, seven TDs last year.
Expectations: Contending for playoff spot and possibly division title in uncertain NFC East. Cousins playing for another contract should be more motivation than distraction with coach Jay Gruden dialing up passing game as much as possible. Anything from 6-10 to 10-6 is possible with brutal schedule and big problems to fix from last year with limited personnel turnover on defense.
21. Detroit Lions
DETROIT (9-8)
New faces: OT Rick Wagner, OG T.J. Lang, OT Greg Robinson, DE Cornelius Washington, rookie LB Jarrad Davis, rookie CB Teez Tabor.
Key losses: OT Riley Reiff, OG Larry Warford, LB DeAndre Levy, DE Kerry Hyder, WR Anquan Boldin.
Strengths: Passing game. QB Matthew Stafford, armed with NFL's richest contract, has found groove going into second full season in coordinator Jim Bob Cooter's offense. WR Golden Tate, WR Marvin Jones, TE Eric Ebron, RB Theo Riddick and RB Ameer Abdullah give Stafford slew of options.
Weaknesses: Running game averaged 30th last three years and might not be improved. Abdullah and Riddick coming off injury-shortened seasons and LT Taylor Decker out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery. On defense, each position group needs surprising contributor to help unit surpass low expectations. DE Kerry Hyder had season-ending Achilles tendon injury, putting more pressure on DE Ezekiel Ansah to be heathy and productive as he was two years ago.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Jones had career-high 930 yards receiving in first season with team. He might approach career-high 10 TDs from 2013 in Cincinnati without Boldin as go-to player in red zone. Abdullah can contribute on ground and air if he stays healthy.
Expectations: Team took down banner in renovated Ford Field that listed playoff appearances. Good move because Lions probably won't make playoffs after earning spot in 2016, 2014 and 2011.
20. Los Angeles Chargers
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (5-11)
New faces: Coach Anthony Lynn, defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, LT Russell Okung, WR Mike Williams.
Key losses: OT King Dunlap, LB Manti Te'o, CB Brandon Flowers, G D.J. Fluker, WR Stevie Johnson, RB Danny Woodhead, OG Forrest Lamp (injured), LB Denzel Perryman (injured ankle).
Strengths: QB Philip Rivers hasn't missed game in 11 years and remains among NFL's best. After rough 2016, he now has ample targets with improved health of Keenan Allen. Injured rookie WR Mike Williams also should help out at some point. Offensive line likely improves with Okung protecting Rivers' blind side. Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram among best pass-rushing duos in game. Secondary looks reinvigorated after return of CB Jason Verrett.
Weaknesses: Injuries already creeping in yet again for team that hasn't stayed healthy last two years. Offensive line would have been better with rookie Forrest Lamp, who's lost for season with torn ACL. Perryman's absence leaves inexperience up middle likely until October. First-round pick Williams (back) still hasn't played, hampering his development. They're also going with rookie K Younghoe Koo, who must prove himself under pressure.
Fantasy Players to Watch: Rivers always puts up numbers. RB Melvin Gordon will get ample carries. WR Tyrell Williams could see plenty of balls with defenses focusing on Allen. Bosa, Ingram look unstoppable again with chance to rack up sacks in bunches.
Expectations: Although relocation season brings many uncertainties, major improvement seems possible for team that was crushed by injuries for final two seasons in San Diego. Lynn has brought strong leadership to first head coaching job, while Bradley and offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt are seasoned tacticians. Chargers have ample offensive talent for Rivers, and Bradley's 4-3 defense should have personnel to succeed. Best scenario is 9-7 with shot at playoff berth, but AFC West probably is best NFL division.
19. Carolina Panters
CAROLINA PANTHERS (6-10)
New faces: DE Julius Peppers, CB Captain Munnerlyn, S Mike Adams, LT Matt Kalil, RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Russell Shepard, WR Curtis Samuel, LT Matt Kalil.
Key losses: FB Mike Tolbert, LT Michael Oher, RT Mike Remmers, WR Ted Ginn Jr., WR Philly Brown, LB A.J. Klein, S Tre Boston, DE Kony Ealy.
Strengths: Added Peppers to defense that was second in NFL in sacks in 2016. Still have two of game's best LBs in Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. QB Cam Newton was league MVP two years ago and is motivated to prove himself after difficult 2016. Newton not expected to run as much this year after shoulder surgery. Have strong 1-2 punch at RB with starter Jonathan Stewart and shifty backup McCaffrey. Greg Olsen is only TE in history with three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons.. Added C Ryan Kalil's brother Matt to upgrade left tackle position.
Weaknesses: Second-year CBs James Bradberry and Daryl Worley are improving, but still young. Worley has struggled in preseason. Team's safeties — Kurt Coleman and Adams — aren't great in run support. Offensive line struggled to protect Newton last season, but played well in preseason. Depth, particularly on defense, could be problem. K Graham Gano needs to be more consistent.
Fantasy Players To Watch: With better O-line in front of him, Newton should have bounceback season after throwing 19 TDs and 14 INTs in 2016. McCaffrey may not start, but has potential to be dynamic playmaker with exceptional quickness and cutting ability. RB Jonathan Stewart still running strong at 30, should see more goal line carries. WR Kelvin Benjamin has looked exceptional in preseason and appears poised for breakout season. Olsen still reliable and huge part of offense.
Expectations: Panthers certainly have talent to win fourth NFC South title in five years and bounce back from disappointing year. Team was No. 1 in offense in 2015, but fell to middle of pack last year. Have added tremendous speed in McCaffrey, Samuel and Shepard to help ease burden on Newton. Despite losing coordinator Sean McDermott, defense could be better than ever after adding experienced veterans Peppers, Munnerlyn and Adams.
18. Houston Texans
HOUSTON TEXANS (10-8)
New faces: QB Deshaun Watson, RB D'Onta Foreman, LB Zach Cunningham, K Ka'imi Fairbairn, linebackers coach Mike Vrabel promoted to defensive coordinator.
Key losses: QB Brock Osweiler, CB A.J. Bouye, S Quintin Demps, offensive coordinator George Godsey.
Strengths: Houston's defensive front should be strength of team with three-time Defensive Player of Year J.J. Watt returning after missing most of last season after two back surgeries, and 2014 top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney coming off best season. Lamar Miller returns to lead strong group of running backs after rushing for 1,073 yards last season in first year in Houston. Group should get boost this year with addition of Foreman, last year's Doak Walker Award winner, who will be good complement to smaller Miller.
Weaknesses: Questions abound on offensive line with veteran left tackle Duane Brown still holding out and unit looking shaky in preseason. Texans need center Nick Martin, who missed all of rookie season with injury, to develop quickly and guard Xavier Su'a-Filo to improve if they hope to have more potent offense. Team is set at cornerback with veterans Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson, but Houston could be suspect at safety after losing Demps in free agency.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR DeAndre Hopkins, Miller, defense.
Expectations: If Watt is healthy and back to form, Houston's defense featuring him and Clowney should be among best. Question is if Tom Savage, expected to start, or Watson can step up and provide consistent quarterback play after years of problems at position. If Houston finally gets its QB situation solved and Miller has another good season, Texans could contend for championship after failing to get out of divisional round of playoffs in previous four postseason trips.
17. Indianapolis Colts
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (8-8)
New faces: QB Jacoby Brissett, DT Johnathan Hankins, S Malik Hooker, RB Marlon Mack, OLB Jabaal Sheard, OLB John Simon, CB Quincy Wilson, NT Al Woods.
Key losses: S Mike Adams, TE Dwayne Allen, ILB D'Qwell Jackson, DT Kendall Langford, OLB Robert Mathis, P Pat McAfee, OLB Erik Walden.
Strengths: Andrew Luck is among league's top quarterbacks when healthy. Pro Bowler T.Y Hilton was league's 2016 yards receiving champ, and TE Jack Doyle has become one of Luck's most trusted receivers. RB Frank Gore shows no signs of slowing down, and 44-year-old Adam Vinatieri remains model of consistency for kickers everywhere.
Weaknesses: Indy's young offensive line and completely revamped defense are still trying to get in sync. Preseason games have demonstrated benefits of emphasizing takeaways, but defensive coordinator Ted Monachino continues trying to find pass rushers. Colts' injury-riddled secondary will force rookies into major roles early. If Luck isn't healthy, QB becomes weak spot.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Hilton should continue to produce big numbers if Luck is making the throws. Same with Doyle's numbers, which are expected to improve now that he's starting. You know what you get with Vinatieri.
Expectations: Depend primarily on Luck's health. After Luck missed all offseason workouts, training camp and preseason, coach Chuck Pagano eagerly awaits any indication franchise quarterback will be ready for game action soon. Luck has been rehabbing from offseason surgery on throwing shoulder. With Luck, Colts could contend in weak AFC South. Without him, Indy could get top 10 draft pick.
16. Miami Dolphins
MIAMI DOLPHINS (10-7)
New faces: QB Jay Cutler, TE Julius Thomas, LB Lawrence Timmons, TE Anthony Fasano, first-round pick DE Charles Harris, DE William Hayes, S Nate Allen, S T.J. McDonald.
Key losses: Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, LT Branden Albert, TE Dion Sims, S Isa Abdul-Quddus, TE Jordan Cameron, DE Mario Williams, DT Earl Mitchell.
Strengths: Dolphins are loaded at skill positions, with 1,272-yard rusher Jay Ajayi and deep corps of pass targets led by two-time Pro Bowl WR Jarvis Landry. Coach Adam Gase and $10 million coaxed inconsistent Cutler out of retirement after QB Ryan Tannehill suffered knee injury that will sideline him for entire season. Cutler knows playbook and clicked with Gase when both were with Bears, and Cutler connected repeatedly during preseason games and practice with WR DeVante Parker, who appears primed for breakout season.
Weaknesses: OL is shaky, and that's with three-time Pro Bowl C Mike Pouncey, who has battled bad hips past several seasons. Back end of defense is also big question mark, and serious training camp injuries to rookie LB Raekwon McMillan, CB Tony Lippett and G Ted Larsen could prove costly.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Parker, WR Jakeem Grant.
Expectations: Holes on defense rule out challenging Patriots in AFC East. Law of averages also works against Dolphins, who in Gase's first season won their final seven games decided by TD or less. But young coach is widely regarded as rising star in NFL, and if he can bring out best in Cutler, Dolphins should score enough to finish .500 or better.
15. Denver. Broncos
DENVER BRONCS (9-7)
New faces: LT Garrett Bolles, RG Ron Leary, RT Menelik Watson, LG Allen Barbre, RBs Jamal Charles and De'Angelo Henderson, WR Isaiah McKenzie, NTs Domata Peko Sr. and Zach Kerr, OLBs DeMarcus Walker and Kasim Edebali, CB Brendan Langley, S Jamal Carter and DE Shelby Harris.
Old/new face: QB Brock Osweiler.
Key losses: SS T.J. Ward, OLB DeMarcus Ware.
Strengths: Pass rush, led by Von Miller even with Shane Ray (wrist) on IR and Shaquil Barrett (hip) working his way back. Secondary, even though Ward, founding member of "No Fly Zone," was cut after being supplanted by Justin Simmons.
Weaknesses: Tight end until rookie Jake Butt returns from knee surgery, which team hopes is by midseason. D-line only because Derek Wolfe (ankle), Jared Crick (back) and Zack Kerr (knee) are working their way back from injuries.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Demaryius Thomas, WR Emmanuel Sanders, RB C.J. Anderson, RB De'Angelo Henderson, WR/PR Isaiah McKenzie, Denver's defense.
Expectations: Return to playoffs after missing out last year for first time since 2010. Denver's defense again is topnotch and offense features four new starters up front and bolstered backfield for Mike McCoy's second stint as Broncos OC. Special teams features K Brandon McManus and P Riley Dixon plus speedy McKenzie returning punts and Cody Latimer kick returning.
14. Baltimore Ravens
BALTIMORE RAVENS (8-8)
New faces: WR Jeremy Maclin, CB Brandon Carr, S Tony Jefferson, RB Danny Woodhead, OT Austin Howard.
Key losses: OL Rick Wagner, FB Kyle Juszczyk, DT Timmy Jernigan, LB Elvis Dumervil, WR Steve Smith, OL Alex Lewis (injured reserve), TE Dennis Pitta (injured reserve), LB Zachary Orr (retired), C John Urschel (retired).
Strengths: Defense. Additions of Carr and Jefferson, along with top draft pick Marlon Humphrey, shores up backfield that sorely lacked depth last season, and opposing offenses will also find it hard to run against defensive front anchored by 335-pound Brandon Williams. Sleeker Terrell Suggs provides Baltimore with legitimate threat to quarterbacks who linger in pocket.
Weaknesses: Offensive line. After losing Wagner to free agency, Ravens were already hurting before Urschel retired and Lewis sustained season-ending shoulder injury. Addition of Howard should help, and GM Ozzie Newsome traded for two more linemen immediately before final cuts. Regardless, line lacks depth and can ill afford another injury, especially to Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda or LT Ronnie Stanley.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Justin Tucker is arguably best kicker in league, and he usually gets plenty of FG opportunities because of Baltimore's annual struggles in red zone. RB Terrance West will get majority of carries, so he should amass some decent yards on ground and account for most of team's rushing touchdowns.
Expectations: Ravens will get as far as defense carries them. QB Joe Flacco was spotty last year in return from knee surgery, and this season he missed all of training camp with bad back. That does not bode well for offense that lost Pitta (team-high 86 catches) and is operating with thin line. If Flacco can protect ball and Tucker can get points out of drives that fizzle within 40 yards of goal line, Baltimore might get back into postseason after going 5-11 in 2015 and 8-8 last year.
13. Arizona Cardinals
ARIZONA CARDINALS (7-8-1)
New Faces: ILB Karlos Dansby, K Phil Dawson, S Antoine Bethea, S Budda Baker, QB Blaine Gabbert, ILB Haason Reddick.
Key Losses: S Tony Jefferson, DT Calais Campbell, S D.J. Swearinger, ILB Kevin Minter, K Chandler Catanzaro, OG Earl Watford, CB Tyvon Branch.
Strengths: With David Johnson, Cardinals have one of best and certainly most versatile running backs. Team still is loaded at skill positions led by WR Larry Fitzgerald and, if healthy, John Brown. Carson Palmer returned to form second half of last season, and Arizona expects strong passing game if redesigned offensive line provides adequate protection for 37-year-old QB. Patrick Peterson and healthy Tyrann Mathieu make secondary one of strengths of defense that should be quicker and deeper this season.
Weaknesses: Offensive line now has D.J. Humphries at left tackle and Jared Veldheer switched to right tackle, position he hasn't played. Much depends on performance of new RG Evan Boehm, drafted year ago as center. On defense, second-year DT Robert Nkemdiche is part of new rotation on defensive line which will be absent dominant presence of Campbell, so run defense is question mark. Special teams were awful last year and will need improved play from large group of newcomers and holdovers.
Fantasy players to watch: Johnson, Brown, Arizona defense.
Expectations: Cardinals were worn down by high expectations year ago after going 13-3 and making NFC championship game in 2015 season. Coach Bruce Arians and players believe they still have talent to contend.
12. Minnesota Vikings
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (8-8)
New faces: LT Riley Reiff, RT Mike Remmers, RB Dalvin Cook, RB Latavius Murray, WR Michael Floyd, C Pat Elflein, DT Jaleel Johnson.
Key losses: RB Adrian Peterson, LT Matt Kalil, CB Captain Munnerlyn, WR/KR Cordarrelle Patterson, LG Alex Boone, LB Chad Greenway, RG Brandon Fusco.
Strengths: Defensive line, bookended by Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter and anchored by Linval Joseph, is one of best and deepest in league. Front four logged 34 of team's 41 sacks, which were fifth most in NFL. Secondary should still be challenging to pass against, with CB Xavier Rhodes and SS Harrison Smith in charge. If there's time for QB Sam Bradford to throw, all-time single-season completion percentage record holder has capable group of WRs with Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Floyd, when back from four-game suspension. Rookie Cook adds dynamic component to offense.
Weaknesses: Offensive line has only one returning starter, RG Joe Berger, and he was canter last two seasons. Reiff and Remmers should be upgrade from struggles endured at tackle spots in 2016, but by how much? Run blocking was just as much of problem as pass protection. Cook has lightning-like speed, but fumbling was occasionally issue at Florida State.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Cook, Diggs, Thielen.
Expectations: There's just as much talent, experience and swagger in place as in 2015, when Vikings surpassed Green Bay to win NFC North and started 5-0 in 2016. Front office has committed too much money on long-term contracts for stars on defense and free-agent deals for veterans on offensive line to be satisfied with finish short of playoffs. Regaining division title from Packers will be difficult, though, and limitations of offensive line could again be team's demise.
11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (9-7)
New Faces: WR DeSean Jackson, DE Chris Baker, TE O.J. Howard, S Justin Evans, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, K Nick Folk, WR Chris Godwin, S J.J. Wilcox.
Key Losses: QB Mike Glennon, WR Russell Shepard, LB Daryl Smith, CB Alterraun Verner, S Bradley McDougald.
Strengths: Bucs go as Jameis Winston goes. With additional playmakers — Jackson, Howard, Godwin — around young QB, coach Dirk Koetter is counting on offense being more explosive.
Weaknesses: Despite making strikes defensively following slow start last season, absence of consistent pass rush remains concern. Team hasn't had player finish with double-digit sacks since Simeon Rice in 2005. Five-time Pro Bowl DT Gerald McCoy welcomes addition of Baker on line also featuring Robert Ayers Jr. Second-year DE Noah Spence can make difference, too.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Winston; Jackson, WR Mike Evans; TE Cameron Brate; RB Doug Martin, who begins season on reserve/suspended list while serving remaining three games of ban for violating NFL policy on performance enhancers.
Expectations: After improving from six wins to nine in Winston's second season, next logical step would seem to be contending for NFC South title, as well as team's first playoff berth since 2007. But if Bucs have learned anything during long drought, it's that nothing's guaranteed, even with roster that seems talented enough to win. Winston threw for more than 8,100 yards and 50 touchdowns over past two years. He's also thrown 33 interceptions. Improving on last year's 9-7 finish won't be as simple as curbing turnovers and scoring more points, either. Inconsistency on defense has been problem, though Koetter is confident club's headed in right direction after bolstering depth at linebacker and safety.
10. Oakland Raiders
OAKLAND RAIDERS (12-5)
New faces: RB Marshawn Lynch, TE Jared Cook, OL Marshall Newhouse, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, QB EJ Manuel, defensive assistant John Pagano, rookies CB Gareon Conley, S Obi Melifonwu, DT Eddie Vanderdoes, LB Marquel Lee, DT Treyvon Hester.
Key losses: RB Latavius Murray, LB Malcolm Smith, LB Perry Riley, DT Dan Williams, OL Austin Howard, OL Menelik Watson, RB Taiwan Jones, OC Bill Musgrave.
Strengths: Offense led team to 12 wins and playoffs last year. QB Derek Carr emerged as one of top passers in Year 3 and led seven fourth-quarter comebacks. Offensive line allowed league-low 18 sacks behind trio of Pro Bowlers (LT Donald Penn, RG Kelechi Osemele, C Rodney Hudson). Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree provide capable targets on outside. Cook should improve production at tight end. Lynch came out of retirement to play in hometown and has shown burst in preseason.
Weaknesses: Defense full of holes despite presence of Defensive Player of Year Khalil Mack and fellow edge rusher Bruce Irvin. Interior rush should be improved with healthy Mario Edwards Jr. and Vanderdoes. Still many questions at linebacker, secondary. Lee looked like fifth-round pick in preseason and might not be answer at MLB. Sean Smith struggled again at cornerback. Conley missed all of preseason with shin injury. Pagano expected to improve communication on back end, but no progress evident in preseason.
Fantasy Players To Watch: WR Amari Cooper. Cooper put up big numbers in second season with 83 catches for 1,153 yards; touchdowns could get boost from only five last season. Cooper rarely targeted in red zone with five catches on 13 throws with no TDs. He bulked up this offseason to help get off line better against press coverage and outmuscle defenders for contested catches in hopes of red zone boost.
Expectations: Raiders enter season with hopes of challenging New England for AFC dominance and giving Oakland championship before team leaves for Las Vegas in 2020. First must figure out way to get past Kansas City in division after getting swept last two years. Raiders ended 13-year playoff drought only to lose opener at Houston with Carr sidelined by broken leg. With Carr healthy, offense could be even more powerful this season. Beast Mode looked fresh in preseason for possible boost to power run game. Raiders could contend if defense improves. Oakland allowed NFL-worst 61 completions of at least 20 yards last season and ranked last with 25 sacks.
9. New York Giants
NEW YORK GIANTS (11-6)

Key losses: DT Jonathan Hankins, RT Marshall Newhouse, PK Robbie Gould.
Strengths: This is going to be one of best defenses in league, with S Landon Collins, DEs Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul, and CB Janoris Jenkins looking very good in camp. QB Eli Manning has more options than Odell Beckham Jr. to target.
Weaknesses: Offensive line is major question mark, especially left tackle Ereck Flowers and whoever plays right guard, John Jerry or Brett Jones. Rosas did everything right in winning placekicking job from veteran Mike Nugent, but you never know with 22-year-old who has never kicked in regular-season game. Second-year RB Paul Perkins has much to prove as starter.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Beckham is going to come close to 100 catches and double digits in touchdowns, and rookie TE Engram is going to produce. If there is someone on defense to take, it's Collins. Defense as whole is worth it.
Expectations: Ben McAdoo got Giants back to playoffs for first time since 2011 season in first season as head coach. More is expected this year, even if line disappoints. Defense can carry this team like it did a year ago. Only thing that severely changes prospects is injury to Manning. Uncertain that Smith or rookie Davis Webb can adequately replace two-time Super Bowl MVP.
8. Kansas City Chiefs
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (12-5)
New faces: LB Reggie Ragland, QB Patrick Mahomes II, RB Kareem Hunt, LB Kevin Pierre-Louise, DT Bennie Logan.
Key losses: WR Jeremy Maclin, RB Jamaal Charles, DT Dontari Poe, LB D.J. Alexander, LB Josh Mauga.
Strengths: Offensive line should be solid after returning every starter from last season, while TE Travis Kelce is among NFL's best at his position. Veteran group of linebackers and defensive backs should keep Kansas City near top of league in most defensive statistical categories.
Weaknesses: Losing mammoth DT Dontari Poe in free agency hurt defensive line that already struggled to stop run, while release of WR Jeremy Maclin in salary cap-saving move left big hole on offense. Chiefs have few pass catchers with experience, instead turning to second-year pro Tyreek Hill and several rookies and newcomers to fill void. Running back became problematic after Spencer Ware went down with likely season-ending knee injury in third preseason game against Seattle.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Hunt should get majority of touches and provides versatility catching passes out of backfield. Hill is coming off breakout rookie season but will not handle kickoff return duties, an area in which he shined last year. Kelce dealt with minor knee injury during training camp but should be Chiefs' top pass catcher this season.
Expectations: Chiefs return most key players from AFC West title team last season. QB Alex Smith needs to impress to earn final year of his contract, otherwise Mahomes is waiting in wings. Maclin's release was big blow to offense already starved of playmakers. Biggest questions on defense concern health: Houston missed time last season with persistent knee trouble, Johnson is returning from ruptured Achilles tendon, and SS Eric Berry dealt with nagging heel injury in training camp after signing $78 million, six-year contract in February.
7. Tennessee Titans
TENNESSEE TITANS (9-7)
New faces: WR Corey Davis, CB Adoree Jackson, WR Eric Decker, DT Sylvester Williams, WR Taywan Taylor, CB Logan Ryan, S Johnathan Cyprien, TE Jonnu Smith, LB Erik Walden, LB Daren Bates, G/C Tim Lelito, S Brynden Trawick.
Key losses: CB Jason McCourty, WR Kendall Wright, S Rashad Johnson, NT Al Woods.
Strengths: Pro Bowl RB DeMarco Murray led AFC in rushing, and offensive line returns all five starters. QB Marcus Mariota is healthy after breaking right leg Dec. 24, and took first snaps of training camp. Titans revamped wide receivers group, giving Mariota more options for quarterback whose 95.6 passer rating was 10th in NFL last season. Titans ranked second in NFL against run and sixth with 40 sacks.
Weaknesses: Secondary. Tennessee was better than only two teams defending passes last season, and secondary could feature four new starters from year ago thanks to Ryan, Jackson and Cyprien, with S Kevin Byard set to start his second NFL season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Mariota, Murray, RB Derrick Henry, Davis, Decker, WR Rishard Matthews, TE Delanie Walker.
Expectations: Titans made six-win improvement from NFL-worst 3-13 in 2015, just missing out on AFC South title won by Houston. Earning franchise's first playoff berth since 2008 and first postseason victory since January 2004 in coach Mike Mularkey's second full season tops priorities.
6. Atlanta Falcons
ATLANTA FALCONS (13-6)
New faces: DT Dontari Poe, DE Jack Crawford, FB Derrick Coleman, WR Andre Roberts, rookie DE Takkarist McKinley, offensive coordinator Steve Sarkasian.
Key losses: DT Ra'Shede Hageman (commissioner's exempt list), DT Jonathan Babineaux, OG Chris Chester, FB Patrick DiMarco, TE Jacob Tamme, LB Paul Worrilow, DE Dwight Freeney, WR Eric Weems, SS Dashon Goldson, LB Philip Wheeler.
Strengths: Atlanta returns most of its playmakers from offense that led NFL in scoring in 2016. Quarterback Matt Ryan, 2016 MVP, leads balanced attack that includes running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman and receivers Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu and Taylor Gabriel. Young defense is on rise after starting four rookies and four second-year players in 2016.
Weaknesses: Depth which was exposed in Super Bowl collapse still appeared to be concern in 0-4 preseason. Starting defense should be improved but only one or two injuries, especially in secondary, could lead to severe dropoff. There is still question at right guard, where Ben Garland and Wes Schweitzer alternated through preseason in attempt to replace Chester. Rotation could continue into regular season, perhaps harming continuity that was 2016 strength when Falcons were only team to start same five on line throughout season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Ryan, Freeman and Jones are obvious. Second-year TE Austin Hooper could be breakout player. Coleman's stock would rise if Freeman, who missed two preseason games with concussion but should be ready for regular season, has another injury. Sanu also could be fantasy bargain.
Expectations: Falcons coach Dan Quinn has stressed focus on future instead of looking back to try to gain motivation from Super Bowl collapse. He also has told players to worry about tough NFC South instead of thinking only of return to big game. There was almost no talk of Super Bowl during training camp, but anything short of another long playoff run would be disappointment.
5. Seattle Seahawks
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (11-6-1)
New faces: DL Sheldon Richardson, CB Justin Coleman, OL Luke Joeckel, RB Eddie Lacy, LB Michael Wilhoite, K Blair Walsh, OL Oday Aboushi, DB Bradley McDougald, rookies OL Ethan Pocic, CB Shaquill Griffin.
Key losses: DE Cassius Marsh, DT Ahytba Rubin, OL George Fant, K Steven Hauschka, OL Garry Gilliam, LB Brock Coyle.
Strengths: Defense is still elite and may have most depth since Super Bowl winning season. Addition of Richardson to defensive line may push Seattle over top. LB Bobby Wagner led NFL in tackles last season, S Earl Thomas is recovered from broken leg, and CB Richard Sherman and DE Michael Bennett remain among best in league at positions. QB Russell Wilson also fully healthy after playing through knee, ankle injuries last season, and has TE Jimmy Graham, WR Doug Baldwin as primary targets.
Weaknesses: Offensive line remains biggest question, especially after loss of LT Fant due to season-ending knee injury. Run game has potential, but both Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy have durability questions. Cornerback opposite Sherman closely watched with Deshawn Shead recovering from major knee injury.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Wilson, Graham, Rawls, WR Tyler Lockett, K Blair Walsh.
Expectations: Anything less than playoff spot and being in Super Bowl conversation is considered disappointment. Seattle still viewed as favorite in NFC West even with defense aging and some offseason drama. Wilson has looked superb in preseason and healthy return of Thomas is significant for defense. Favorable schedule means Seahawks should be in running all season for best in NFC.
4. Dallas Cowboys
DALLAS COWBOYS (13-4)
New faces: DE Taco Charlton, CB Nolan Carroll, CB Chidobe Awuzie, CB Jourdan Lewis, WR/KR Ryan Switzer, QB Cooper Rush.
Key losses: QB Tony Romo, S Barry Church, CB Brandon Carr, CB Morris Claiborne, DT Terrell McClain.
Strengths: One of best offenses in league with rookie sensations QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliott heading into second season behind one of best offensive lines. While Romo is listed as loss, all indications are Cowboys in good hands with Prescott, who looked strong in preseason after taking over for injured Romo and keeping job last year. Prescott may have to carry more load early if Elliott's six-game NFL suspension over domestic violence incident is upheld. Dez Bryant and Cole Beasley are top WRs.
Weaknesses: Pass rush remains top concern for mediocre defense. Charlton didn't distinguish himself in preseason, and fellow DEs David Irving and Damontre Moore will be suspended to start regular season. Cowboys could use breakout year from DeMarcus Lawrence (second-round pick in 2014). All-Pro Sean Lee is top defensive player, and Cowboys eager to see what fellow LB Jaylon Smith can do after missing rookie season recovering from college knee injury.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Elliott tops list after leading NFL with 1,631 yards rushing. Prescott might be overvalued because Cowboys' offense might not lead to prolific passing numbers that can rival league leaders. Bryant could be poised for big year after first full offseason since All-Pro year in 2014. K Dan Bailey among most reliable in NFL, including from 50 yards and beyond. Darren McFadden could be good play as long as Elliott is out.
Expectations: Super Bowl hopes are realistic after Prescott and Elliott led Cowboys to top seed in NFC before divisional playoff loss to Green Bay. Prescott is quick to say sensational rookie season means nothing as he seeks to lead franchise's first long playoff run since last title during 1995 season. Some young players from defense-first draft will need to come through if Cowboys are to have better balance between units.
3. Green Bay Packers
GREEN BAY PACKERS (12-7)
New faces: TE Martellus Bennett, TE Lance Kendricks, RG Jahri Evans, OLB Ahmad Brooks, DL Ricky Jean-Francois, CB Davon House, rookie DBs Kevin King and Josh Jones, rookie RBs Jamaal Williams and Aaron Jones.
Key losses: RB Eddie Lacy, TE Jared Cook, RG T.J. Lang, OL JC Tretter, LB Julius Peppers, S Micah Hyde.
Strengths: In prime, QB Aaron Rodgers got two new weapons in offseason with additions of Bennett and Kendricks. Opposing defenses already had headaches matching up with WRs Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb. Starting OL is solid again, even with veteran Evans replacing Pro Bowler Lang. RB Ty Montgomery's pass-catching ability another matchup issue for defenses. DL Mike Daniels anchors front, while Morgan Burnett and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix might be one of top safety tandems in league. LB Clay Matthews coming off injury-filled season, but remains defense's top playmaker.
Weaknesses: Beefed up cornerback position by bringing back House for second tour in Green Bay and drafting King, adding length to secondary. Will it be enough to shore porous pass coverage that torched Packers for most of 2016? Packers hope Brooks improves depth behind starters Matthews and Nick Perry at outside linebacker. Depth also concern on offensive line, where Packers cannot afford long-term injury after inconsistent camp for backups. Running back position young and relatively inexperienced with converted receiver Montgomery being backed by three drafted rookies.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Addition of Bennett spices up attack, but offense already provided numerous options for Rodgers. With questions about run game, Rodgers in line for another huge season.
Expectations: Getting to Super Bowl will always be realistic goal with Rodgers at quarterback, though clock is ticking. He turns 34 in December. General manager Ted Thompson active — for Packers — in free agency with smart, relatively economic moves. If Packers can establish semblance of run game and shore up cornerback position and generate enough pass rush, they'll be tough to beat. Tough to beat anyway with offense built to win shootouts. Winning NFC North and securing home-field advantage is key, and Green Bay will be tested early by opening season against NFC powers Seattle and Atlanta.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (13-6)
New faces: CB Joe Haden, LB T.J. Watt, TE Vance McDonald, RB James Conner, WR Juju Smith-Schuster, CB Cam Sutton.
Key losses: LB Lawrence Timmons, RB DeAngelo Williams, TE Ladarius Green, WR Markus Wheaton, WR Sammie Coates, LB Jarvis Jones.
Strengths: Offense. "Killer Bs" — WR Antonio Brown, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Martavis Bryant and QB Ben Roethlisberger — are reunited following Bryant's return from yearlong drug suspension. Throw in one of best offensive lines in league and Pittsburgh should have no trouble putting up points. DE Cam Heyward is back from torn pectoral to anchor defensive line that improved as 2016 wore on.
Weaknesses: Secondary was exposed in loss to New England in AFC championship game last year. Coach Mike Tomlin wants more physical approach in 2017 and late addition of Haden gives Steelers proven defender (when healthy) to line up opposite Artie Burns. Nickelback and safety are up in air with Sutton likely to start regular season on injured reserve and Mike Mitchell recovering from lower-body injury that forced him to miss all of training camp. Even modest step forward by group could help Steelers challenge Patriots for top seed in AFC.
Fantasy Players To Watch: Brown is coming off the most productive four-year stretch by a receiver in NFL history (481 receptions for 6,315 yards and 43 touchdowns) and is eager to show the $72 million contract extension he signed was money well spent. Bell is arguably the best all-around back in the league and Bryant's big-play potential ( Roethlisberger and fantasy owners plenty of options.
Expectations: Anything less than a trip to Minneapolis in early February will be a disappointment. Roethlisberger flirted with retirement in the spring before coming back for a 14th season and is working on a year-to-year basis from now on. He badly wants a third Super Bowl ring and the rare free agency splurge on Haden address the team's biggest need. If healthy, the Steelers represent the AFC's best shot at dethroning New England.
1. New England
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (17-2)
New faces: CB Stephon Gilmore, WR Brandin Cooks, RB Mike Gillislee, TE Dwayne Allen.
Key losses: TE Martellus Bennett, RB LeGarrette Blount, DE Jabaal Sheard, CB Logan Ryan, DE Chris Long.
Strengths: QB Tom Brady has little to prove after winning fifth Super Bowl ring last season, but he doesn't look to be slowing down as he prepares for 18th NFL season at age 40. He will also benefit from having intact offensive line from 2016 that did much better job protecting him than in 2015. New England won't have Blount, last season's rushing touchdowns leader, but is hoping to get solid production from trio of Super Bowl hero James White, Dion Lewis, and Gillislee. Same is true for Cooks, expected to provide spark to already potent offense. Plus, star TE Rob Gronkowski is healthy after truncated 2016 season.
Weaknesses: Patriots were dealt biggest blow of preseason when Julian Edelman was lost for season to right knee injury. But they added depth by trading third-string QB Jacoby Brissett to Colts for receiver Phillip Dorsett. New England also has issue to address at punt returner after Cyrus Jones joined Edelman on injured reserve with own right knee injury. Defensively, there is void to fill on edge, where Sheard and Long provided production last season.
Fantasy Players To Watch: With so many weapons to throw to even without Edelman, Brady should be numbers producer in 2017. Even with his four-game "Deflategate" suspension he managed 3,554 yards passing and 28 touchdowns. Cooks is also in position to keep producing at high rate coming off back-to-back 1,100-yard receiving seasons.
Expectations: New England shouldn't have any issue in weak AFC East, where it has won eight straight division titles and 13 of last 14. Patriots have some issues to sort out defensively, but will get early idea of how big those are, facing two 2016 playoff teams in their first three games.
