Katy Perry, Moby, Penguin Prison – 10 Best Free MP3 Downloads This Week

1. Katy Perry – ‘E.T.’ (Kanye West Remix)
Kanye did some of work on Katy’s latest song and it’s, well, quite a bit dirtier. Rapping about how he wants to “bathe…in your Milky Way” and “disrobe you then I’mma probe you”, it pretty much makes ‘Peacock’ and ‘I Kissed A Girl’ seem like kid’s songs.

2. Moby – ‘Be The One’ EP
Missed Moby? He’s back in May with his new album ‘Destroyed’, but if you can’t wait that long, head over to his official website to download a free three-track EP. “The EP is free free free, as I think that increases the chances the music will actually be listened to,” Moby wrote in nice long blog post. He also shared a few more deets about the free EP and the forthcoming album and revealed three videos for the new tracks (which he shot on little camcorders while travelling) – check them out below.

3. tUnE-yArDs – ‘Bizness’
On April 18th, you can pick up ‘w ho k i l l’, the new album from Merrill Garbus (aka tUnE-yArDs). An official mp3 of ‘Bizness’ was offered up to the web by Merrill herself, after the track got leaked once it was streamed on BBC. “It got passed around a lot on the internet but I think you should have the real one,” she wrote. “We can’t wait to see you out there on the road! You are loved on this Valentine’s Day. Thanks for your ears!” Catch tUnE-yArDs on tour starting this April (with a show at London’s Scala on June 8th).

4. Architecture In Helsinki – ‘Contact High’
Unfortunately it’s not a Scissor Sisters cover, which would’ve been brilliant coming from these guys. But still, this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s taken from the band’s forthcoming album ‘Moment Bends’ (due out in May), which they’ve spent the past two years recording at Buckingham Palace (their home studio in Melbourne, not the Queen’s place of residence).

5. Wavves – ‘TV Luv Song’
The lovely Nathan Williams of Wavves gave away a free new tune on SPIN.com the other day. It’s a short little love song for what seems to be one of his favourite pastimes – watching telly. “I’m wasting away in every way/I’m wasting my time/All of my time/But that’s all right with me/I got TV.” Maybe he watches it a bit too much, but we won’t judge.

6. Tribes – ‘We Were Children’
Camden’s Tribes have been making a splash in the music world following a rather secretive DIY-approach to promoting themselves. And after playing a Shockwaves NME Awards Show with Fiction and Mystery Jets and teaming up with Mona on tour, it’s pretty evident it’s working. Grab the band’s latest single, ‘We Were Children’, below.

8. Trouble Andrew – ‘New Kid’
Santigold’s fiancé seems to have gone a bit darker and grimier with his new material, and it’s sounding pretty big. ‘New Kid’ will be on the ex pro-snowboarder’s next album, ‘Dreams Of A Troubled Man’ (due out this March).

9. When Saints Go Machine – ‘Fail Forever’
This one comes from Copenhagen-based foursome When Saints Go Machine. Fromtman Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild says this free track is “about how people never say what they think. When you meet someone and they say, ‘how are you doing?’ You always say, ‘I’m fine.’ It’s never OK to say, I’m depressed. But the most human thing is failure. Everyone pretends to be superhuman, but they’re not.”

10. Penguin Prison – ‘Valentines Day 2011 Mix’
So Valentine’s Day is long over, but this is one V-Day gift we can all still enjoy. With nearly an hour of Billy Idol, Holy Ghost!, Phil Collins and more, this sure beats some discount drug store chocolates.
