CORRECTION: This story has been corrected to reflect that the 17-year-old from California has not yet been extradited to Idaho. Authorities provided incorrect information this past weekend that he had been extradited.
POCATELLO — A California teen accused of murdering an 87-year-old Pocatello woman last month has been transported here to face charges.
The suspect, Dustin G. Alfaro, 18, was previously being held in California. He is from Marysville, near Sacramento.
Alfaro was transported by law enforcement from a detention facility in California to Pocatello on Friday to face the first-degree murder charge against him, according to Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen.
Bannock County Prosecutor Stephen Herzog said Alfaro, who is currently being held at the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello, will likely be arraigned at the Bannock County Courthouse on Monday or Tuesday.
A 17-year-old male, also from Marysville, California, is also facing a first-degree murder charge for allegedly being Alfaro's accomplice in killing Arlyne Koehler, 87, of Pocatello. The 17-year-old is currently incarcerated in California and is fighting his extradition to Idaho to face the murder charge.
Herzog said authorities haven’t yet determined if they will charge the 17-year-old as an adult.
Authorities also haven’t decided if they will seek the death penalty against the teens. Herzog noted that authorities are waiting for more reports and for the teens to be officially arraigned in court before proceeding.
Alfaro and the 17-year-old are accused of killing Koehler, who was stabbed to death in her Pocatello home, located at 1055 McKinley Ave., last month. The victim’s body was discovered by a family member who went to the residence to check on her, according to authorities.
Koehler, who lived alone, didn’t know the teens and it appears they may have randomly targeted her, police have said. Police have not commented on what the teens’ motive might have been.
