Watson Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Graduate linebacker Tre Watson was named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 for his stellar performances both in the classroom and on the field. Watson is now eligible to garner CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Watson has already earned his bachelor's degree in Community Health with a 3.69 cumulative undergraduate GPA. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2015-17), Watson is currently working towards his Masters of Public Health and boasts a 3.85 GPA.

A Tampa, Florida native, Watson is active in Health Occupation Students of America, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society and the National Beta Club. He hopes to become an orthodontist after he's done playing football.

Watson has also excelled for the Terps on the field this year after transferring from Illinois. The linebacker ranks second in the country and leads the Big Ten with five interceptions, while also pacing the conference and ranking 11th in the country in solo tackles per game (6.0).

Watson leads the Big Ten with 99 total tackles and his five interceptions this season ties him with Karl Edwards ('87) for the most all-time in a season by a Terrapin linebacker.

Watson and the Terps are set to host No. 9 Ohio State Saturday at noon on ABC.
