Phoenix PD Chief Wants Study On Police Shootings

Jeri Williams

(Phoenix, AZ)  --  Police shootings in Phoenix are on the rise and now the city's top cop wants to know why.  Chief Jeri Williams has filed what's being called an "emergency request" for a study to analyze the recent spike in officer-involved shootings.  City officials say they're willing to pay around 150-grand for the information.  A city subcommittee will vote on the request today, but the police union is calling the issue a waste of taxpayer money saying there's no magical answer as to why cops open fire. There have been 26 officer involved shooting so far this year which is up from 21 all of last year.
