CASA of the South Plains to host volunteer recruitment events in Plainview

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA. want to remind everyone that April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month by hosting two volunteer recruitment events for those interested in assisting children in foster care.

According to CASA, 627 children received advocacy services from CASA of the South Plains in 2018, and 246 youth in foster care found permanency with the help of their CASA Volunteer. 317 CASA Volunteers donated a total of 8,636 hours in 2018, saving county taxpayers $474,980 in county paid attorneys’ fees.

CASA of the South Plains has set a goal of finding 25 new prospective volunteers for their next training session on Tuesday, June 11.

Those who would like to learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer can attend the CASA 101 Informational Sessions on Wednesday, April 17th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. or from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Pete & Nelda Laney Student Activities Center (a.k.a. Laney Center) at 8th & Vernon, Room 205 in Plainview, Texas.

CASA says training classes can fill up quickly and space is limited so begin the sign-up process and application soon.
