SUN CITY CENTER — A woman was reportedly struck by lightning Tuesday morning as a band of strong winds and heavy rains made its way through Hillsborough County.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 11:35 a.m. requesting medical help for a woman who may have been struck by lightning at a home inside Sun City Center, a sprawling, 55-and-up retirement community, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department.

Emergency responders with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived at 1612 Del Webb Boulevard west to find the woman alert and responsive, the sheriff’s office said.

Firefighters took the woman to South Bay Hospital for further treatment. A Sheriff’s office spokesman provided few details about the woman’s condition, but said her injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
