Fall River man dies in Columbia County Crash

HAMPDEN, Wis (WMTV)--- According to the Columbia County Sheriff's department, their office received a 911 call on the morning of August 18th just before 10 o'clock reporting a two vehicle accident. The caller stated they thought the driver of the van was deceased. The location of the crash was reported to be on Highway 60 at CTH C in the Town of Hampden.

The initial report was that the van did not stop for the stop sign and ran into the flatbed trailer being pulled by a semi. The vehicles involved were a Semi with an empty flatbed trailer and a Chevy Express G2500 Van.

A Columbia County Deputy was on scene within 4 minutes of the call. Rescue personnel from Rio EMS were also dispatched to the scene. The driver of the Chevy Express G2500 Van was dead at the scene. The driver was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Chevy Express G2500 Van was alone in this vehicle.

The deceased subject has been identified as Douglas Lee, 54 of rural Fall River, Wisconsin.

The Semi driver was not injured.

Highway 60 was shut down for four hours. The Columbia County Highway Department helped with the traffic detour.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Rio Fire, Rio EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office, and Blystone’s Towing.
