National Night Out
The date is set for Florence’s National Night Out. The city of Florence is inviting community members to come together and celebrates the safety that our local parks provide. The event is designed to provide information and awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts. City Manager, Erin Reynolds,
201: “Miller Park will be the place that we will celebrate at it is coming august 7th.“
Reynolds says this is also a chance for people to learn about the School Resource Officer Program.
202: “This will be an event that offers some interaction, positive interaction, with our police department.”
The event will take place from 6-9pm on the 7th of August and Police Chief Tom Turner will be a guest on July’s Our town to discuss more about the programs and the event.
Accidents Clog 126
A pair of accidents on highway 126 yesterday had traffic backed up for awhile. The first accident happened around 2:30 in the afternoon and initially life flight was called in to respond, but that order was cancelled. The injured party was taken by ambulance to Riverbend. The second accident was just before 6pm and was between Mile marker 4-5 on 126 the initial report was that a vehicle hit a guard rail.
Friends of Florence Add New Board Members
The Friends of Florence has announced that it has added two new board members. Bart Mealer and Larry Bacon. Bart Mealer will also assume the role of Chief Operating Officer. He began as a volunteer van driver in 2009. He and his wife Susy have been living in Florence since 2006. Mealer has been active in the Florence Charitable community since his retirement.
Larry Bacon is a retired reporter for the Register-Guard and was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. Bacon and his wife Kay both began volunteering for the Friends of Florence in 2003. He was also a former cancer patient and has written several stories about his experiences riding the bus that traverses between Florence and Eugene.
Shoudler Work for 101 North
Traffic headed north bound on highway 101 should be aware that repair work on the shoulders south of Newport begins today. The work will progressively head southbound towards Waldport after each individual repair is completed. Travelers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes. There is no completion date listed by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
School District Advisory Committee Meeting
The Siuslaw School District has announced that it will be having a bond advisory committee meeting tomorrow evening at the school offices at 2111 oak street. The purpose of the meeting is to select a committee and possibly a sub committee to review and establish guidelines. The meeting will begin at 6 pm
