Forensic teams are on the scene after 30 firefighters rushed to tackle a fire on a main road in Skegness.

Crews rushed to the Oxfam shop at Lumley road last night, January 13 at 9.18pm, where it is believed the flat above it was on fire.

Police were also on the scene of the incident and residents nearby were told to keep their windows and doors closed.

Neil Throssel, who own Murray's News opposite the Oxfam, said he slept through the incident but has seen the aftermath of the incident.

He said: "I never heard a thing.

"When I opened the door this morning I saw a police car outside and I didn't know it was a fire.

"The police are there at the moment - there is a police car with a white van that looks like forensics and there has been an officer sitting outside all morning.

"They are doing a lot of photographs of it and I can see the flash going off."

He added that there doesn't appear to be too much damage to the shop.

He said: "The shop itself looks intact. the door has a panel out at the bottom and doesn't look too badly damaged from the front.

"Someone showed me a video of it and it looks like there were two or three fire engines.

"It looked a bit of an over-reaction."

Firefighters from Skegness, Wainfleet, Spilsby, Boston, Leverton and Mablethorpe reponded to the incident and located the fire in the kitchen and roof space.

Skegness Town Councillor Malcolm Gabbitas said he was walking home from the working men's club at 10.45pm and saw the incident.

He said: "I was walking home and it was blocked off completely from Rutland Road to Lumley Square.

"Apparently it was a flat fire.

"There was an ambulance there and three fire engines.

"There wasn't a smell and I couldn't see flames.

"When I saw them I thought 'something has gone off here'. I knew it was something serious."

At 5am today, January 14, fire and rescue tweeted that crews had left the scene and an investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of it.
