Greenwich Avenue is down to one lane of travel with no parking in that downtown area, police said.

The water main break occurred Friday evening, flooding part of downtown Greenwich near Havemeyer Place and Arch Street, police said. The repair work has been ongoing all weekend, according to Greenwich police and Aquarion Water Co.

The Friday break appeared to have occurred near the triangular park in front of the old Post Office, police said. A large amount of water erupted from the ground under the cars parked in the diagonal parking spaces along the west side of the street there, police said. The water flowed up and down the downtown streets.

The entire west side of Greenwich Avenue along the western curb began to bulge up, "all the way down to the Apple Store with water coming out at various spots," police said.
