Channing Tatum: Gambit Is A Different Kind Of Superhero Film

It looks as though Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’ may not be your average comic book movie… as the actor hints at a very different kind of film.

It’s no secret that X-Men’s Gambit isn’t your run-of-the-mill mutant. Whether it’s his thick Cajun accent or his rather shady past, Remy LeBeau tends to stand out from the crowd. And with a penchant for card-throwing and bo-staffs, she’s more than a little flashy.

And don’t get us started on his way with the ladies.

But will Gambit’s more defining characteristics appear on the big screen? It looks as though they just might…

During an interview with Comic Book Resources, Channing Tatum revealed that ‘Gambit’ might not be your usual comic book movie.

“We’re so early in it,” he said of the currently developing film. “I really have some things in mind, but who knows – it’s pretty fluid at this point. I do believe that [director] Rupert [Wyatt] and I have the exact same vision of what we want to do. We want it to be different.”

Obviously, Gambit has already appeared on the big screen in the 2009 movie, ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ played by Taylor Kitsch… but after very poor fan reactions, it looks as though the new Gambit will be distancing itself from its predecessor.

And it sounds as though that could be a good thing.

“I think Gambit is a really specific sort of character to not do some of these other things that some of the other superheroes kind of have to do,” Tatum added. “It’s who they are. I think his character lends itself to doing something maybe slightly different.”

Of course Channing Tatum is perhaps best known for the raunchy comedy ‘Magic Mike’. Starring as the titular male stripper, it’s a very different role. But could we see Gambit use some of those signature moves?

“Who knows?” chuckled the actor. “You never know what time [period] it’s going to be set in.”

‘Gambit’ heads to cinemas on 7 October 2016.
