Three accused of drug crimes in federal indictments

Three people were charged on two federal indictments in connection with a drug investigation in Lincoln County.

The federal charges are related to distribution of methamphetamine, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Christobal Portillo, 37, and Salina Perez, 35, have been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. They appeared in court July 18 and entered not guilty pleas.Their trial is set for Sept. 23 before Chief U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken, the department said.

Additionally, Patrick Ball, 37, of Toledo, was charged in an indictment with possession to distribute methamphetamine. He also appeared in court July 18 and pleaded not guilty. His trial is also scheduled for Sept. 23 before Aiken.

The charges carry maximum sentences of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

These cases were investigated by the Lincoln and Polk counties interagency narcotics teams and the Drug Enforcement Administration. They are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Potter.
