Michael Bivins received quite the birthday gift, courtesy of Boston. The music legend returned to his native Roxbury Friday to celebrate the renaming of the Ramsey Park basketball court in his honor, as well as to celebrate his 50th birthday.
Bivins, who’s a founding member of famed hip-hop groups New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, wasn’t the only big name in music who was on hand for the ceremony. Ronnie DeVoe, also of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, was back in his old neighborhood, as well as fellow rapper Darryl McDaniels, aka the DMC part of Run DMC.
Other noteworthy folks who showed up to the dedication included CeCe Chung, wife of Patriots safety Patrick Chung, Suffolk district attorney candidate Linda Champion, transit police Superintendent Richard Sullivan and Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley.
“Where it all started Boston… A Little bit of Love is all it takes!!! Good am & God has Blessings for all of us and together we can share them 8-10-18!” Bivins posted after the event on Instagram, giving special thanks to his family and his New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe comrades.
