JAMAICA, NY -- A crew member for Fly Jamaica Airways was arrested last week after customs agents discovered the man was attempting to smuggle nine pounds of cocaine into the U.S.

"This seizure is another example of our CBP (Customs and Border Protection) officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of illicit drugs," said Leon Hayward, Acting Director of CBP's New York Field Operations.

The crew member has been identified as Hugh Hall, a Jamaican citizen who now faces federal narcotics smuggling charges.

According to a press release from the CBP, Hall arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport from Montego Bay, Jamaica on Mar. 17 where he presented himself for inspection.

During the search in a private room, CBP officers discovered four packages taped to his legs, all of which contained a white powder that tested positive for cocaine, according to the press release.

The nine pounds of cocaine has an approximate street value of $160,000.
