TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Former Tennessee reserve guard Chris Darrington is transferring to Toledo.

Toledo coach Tod Kowalczyk announced Darrington’s addition Friday in a news release. Tennessee announced last week Darrington would leave at the end of the spring semester .

The 6-foot-1 guard will sit out the 2018-19 season because of NCAA transfer rules.

Toledo is Darrington’s hometown. Kowalczyk said Darrington “can impact our program much more than just on the floor” and that he “means so much to the Toledo community.”

Darrington has one more season of eligibility. He averaged 2.6 points and 8.4 minutes while playing in 25 of Tennessee’s 35 games this season.

Before coming to Tennessee, Darrington earned first-team National Junior College Athletic Association Division I All-America honors at Vincennes (Indiana), where he averaged 20.7 points and 5.1 assists.
