Majella O’Donnell reveals she has no idea what’s in store on American road trip adventure with husband Daniel

MAJELLA O’Donnell has revealed she has no idea what’s ahead on her American adventure with hubby Daniel.

It was confirmed last month that the couple are bringing their unique brand of travelogue magic Stateside with a new RTE road trip.

The popular pair, who had huge success with their Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip, will take to the highways of the American Midwest in a recreational vehicle.

They will start their journey in Chicago, Illinois, and head north-west through Wisconsin and Minnesota to North Dakota while visiting "must-stop" destinations along the way.

But Majella has admitted she has no idea what’s in store.

She told the Irish Sun on Sunday: "We’re going to America in September and we are doing a Daniel and Majella USA Road Trip. It will be screened in Ireland for RTE but in a camper-van, an RV.

"We will be staying in the camper van not in bed and breakfasts like we did in the last show around Ireland.

"We don’t know what we are going to be doing. I’m not sure of the title but I think it’s going to be Daniel and Majella's USA Road Trip.

"We are doing Chicago to North Dakota. It is middle America, through Minnesota but I don’t know where we’re stopping or what we are doing."

Asked if she was likely to kill Daniel on this road trip in a camper van she said: "It’s more likely he will kill me - we are like any ordinary married couple."

Survivor Majella officially opened the ARC Cancer Support House in Youghal, Co Cork, this week.

And she urged people not to be put off by the current CervicalCheck scandal.

It’s five years since Majella was diagnosed with breast cancer and she is hoping that from this year she will be screened once a year instead of every six months.

She feels that screening is vitally important, although she found her lump herself when lying in bed reading a book.

She said: "For all screening, I think it should be available from the minute you become a woman to the day you die. You always have your cervix, your breasts or whatever.

"I was just very aware. I had four lumps investigated previously, all benign, from just checking.

"I did go for checks as well but that’s not how I found them. I found them through self-examination, which is so important.

"I will say this is not just about finding a lump. It is about finding any change in your breast, whether it’s a dimple or an inverted nipple or whatever any change your breast.

"I was just lying in bed reading a book when I went to scratch my boob and I felt a lump. I am never complacent about it, I immediately told the doctor and that was it."

Majella believes the national BreastCheck service is vitally important as is the cervical screening, and she appealed to women not to be put off being checked.

She said: "Don’t let that affect your view of these services. Some cases may have slipped through but it shouldn’t mean that everybody stops doing it because, of course, it is going to save a lot of people.

"It’s going to save a lot more than will fall through the net.

"It is very important. The number of people I have spoken to that didn’t find anything and were perfectly well but went for a mammogram and they found something."
