Former president George H.W. Bush was released Tuesday from a Houston hospital, a week after being admitted for shortness of breath.

Spokesman Jim McGrath tweeted that Bush was sent home from Houston Methodist Hospital, just one day after the former president's breathing was pronounced as being back to "normal."

"He is now resting at home, grateful to the doctors and nurses for their superb care," McGrath said.

Bush, 90 years old and the oldest living former president, suffers from vascular Parkinsonism — a form of Parkinson's disease that requires him to use a wheelchair or scooter to get around.

The 41st president spent nearly two months in 2012, including Christmas, at the same Houston hospital while he was treated for bronchitis.
