We are following a developing story out of Toledo.

Toledo Fire reports one person is dead after a house fire on Maplewood.

The fire happened Friday night around 11:30 at a two-story, wood-frame home on Maplewood near Delaware.

"Initial reports from 911 callers was that this appeared to be a vacant structure," Toledo Fire stated in a press release.

Firefighters on scene worked to put out heavy flames burning through the roof of the home. Some crews began attacking the fire from inside, while other firefighters searched the home for anyone trapped inside.

"Crews battled flames and high heat conditions as they made their way to the second floor where the majority of the fire was located," Toledo Fire stated in a press release.

After the fire was deemed "under control" around midnight, crews began looking for hot spots. That's when firefighters discovered an adult victim in a second floor bedroom.

The victim's name, age, and gender has not been released.

Toledo Fire spokesman Pvt. Sterling Rahe told 13abc the body was badly burned from the fire, making it nearly impossible to identify the victim at this time.

The cause of the fire and death is under investigation by the Toledo Fire & Rescue arson unit, Toledo police, and the Lucas County Coroners Office.

Pvt. Rahe told 13abc the initial loss of the home is estimated to be $20,000.
