Edward Allen Feilbert, who with his longtime partner Mawby Green adapted the bedroom farce Pajama Tops for Broadway, died April 14 at his home in Santa Monica following a short illness. He was 99.
Feilbert and Green adapted a number of “French Boulevard” comedies for English-speaking audiences.
Their version of the Georges Feydeux comedy 13 Rue de L’Amour was presented on Broadway in 1978 by Theodore Mann and Paul Libin at The Circle in the Square Theatre in a production that starred Louis Jourdan and Patricia Elliott.
In 1944, they were represented on Broadway by a Clarence Derwent-directed production of their adaptation of the Elizabeth Bowen dramatic novel The House in Paris.
Pajama Tops, a Richard Vath-directed adaptation of Jean De Le Traz’s Moumou, premiered at the Winter Garden Theatre in 1963. Twenty years later, Robert Klein, Pia Zadora and Susan George starred in their adaptation of the play for Lorimar and Showtime.
Feilbert and Green also adapted the Robert Thomas comedy Ding Dong Dead and In One Bed and Out the Other, another De Le Traz farce. And their 1985 musical, One for the Tango, starring Leslie Caron, premiered at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts.
Michael Brandman, a producer on the Showtime version of Pajama Tops, announced Feilbert’s death. He has no known survivors.
