Tree Hits Home In Glyndon

Nobody was injured when a tree crashed into a house in Glyndon, Baltimore County officials say.

GLYNDON, MD — A tree fell into a home in Glyndon Friday morning, officials said. Despite what it did to the structure, authorities reported nobody was injured.

There was extensive damage to the home off Timber Run Court, according to Baltimore County Emergency Medical Services Captain Tim Rostkowski.

The incident was one of a handful of cases Friday where trees fell on people's properties around the county, he said. Others were in Lutherville and Upperco. A porch collapsed in Essex, he added.

A woman died in Kingsville when a tree fell on her as she went outside to get the mail Friday afternoon, according to Rostkowski.

The tree into the house on Timber Run Court was "the first of many wind-related events the volunteers from Glyndon responded to earlier today," the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department reported Friday evening.

A high wind warning was in effect for the Baltimore-Washington region until 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 3. Sustained winds will be 25 to 40 mph, with gusts from 55 to 65 mph.

During the warning period, authorities have cautioned people about dangerous driving conditions, flying projectiles and potential power outages.

More than 10,600 BGE customers in Baltimore County had reported power outages as of 11:40 p.m. on Friday, according to the utility company.

Outages were scattered across the county. In Reisterstown, there were nearly 300 outages concentrated off Deer Park Road.

Anyone who comes across power lines or trees that have fallen should contact authorities immediately.

"Please remember if lines are down, DO NOT attempt to move them yourself. Always assume they are energized," the Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department said in a statement. "Do not attempt to drive over, through, or under downed power lines, trees or anything obstructing the road. Call 911."

People may also report outages online or by calling BGE at 1-877-778-2222. For downed wires, call BGE at 1-800-685-0123.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency on Friday evening to allow Maryland agencies to coordinate resources to support impacted citizens.

"I want to caution all Marylanders that these dangerously strong winds will continue this evening and into tomorrow," Hogan said on Friday. "We are continuing to see a number of serious accidents on bridges and roadways, and power outages throughout the state. Please use common sense, heed all warnings, and stay inside and off the roads if possible."
