The driver of the pickup and and four others were taken to area hospitals non-life threatening injuries, Albers said.

The identities of those who were killed were not released. Albers said the driver of the pickup did not appear to be intoxicated, and may have possibly suffered a seizure.

"I have been with the sheriff's office 23 years, and this is one of the worst scenes I have seen," Albers said.

Traffic in both directions was diverted off the freeways and onto the feeder roads.

Officials said charges could be filed with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. The crash is under investigation.
