WAUKOMIS, Okla. – Waukomis police are investigating after finding two people dead inside their home.

Police went to the home in the 500 block of Highland Drive around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to check the welfare of the people who lived there.

The first officer on scene noticed signs of a fire around the front door and called the fire department. The fire chief said the fire was small and out by the time they arrived.

Police found the bodies of a man and woman inside.

Neighbors are distressed over the death and the fact police have not released exactly how the couple died.

“Everybody’s talking and wondering,” said Debbie Parker, who lives down the street.

Parker went home to a chaotic scene on her street.

“A lot of police cars, fire engine and just the whole neighborhood was out in the streets,” she said.

Nancy Martinez said the couple had moved in about two years ago but didn’t associate much with people on the street.

“I don’t know them, per se. I, you know, wave as I go by and stuff, but it’s very, very, very distressing,” Martinez said. “I guess you could say they kind of kept to themselves and were quiet. They had pets that I understand were more like their children than just their pets.”

Police said they are not looking for suspects, so neighbors said it makes them wonder if the couple died from the fire inside the home or if it was possibly a murder-suicide.

“For someone to be feeling that hopeless and they just live down the street from you and you don’t know, you don’t have a clue. Maybe you could’ve if you had made an effort to get to know them,” said an emotional Martinez.

“Very sad. Might’ve been able to help them if we knew them,” Parker said.

Neighbors said they feel for the family and friends of the couple.

“It makes me really, really sad. It makes my heart hurt to know that their families are going through what they’ve got to be going through,” Martinez said.

One person who knew the couple told News 4 they had no children but were pet lovers with several dogs and cats.

Police have not yet released their names.
