Benson said in a letter that they sent the rocks to show small town sheriffs' departments that they are appreciated on a big scale, and that they family had sent out 1,721 rocks across the country.

The girls are requesting business cards in return from the various departments as mementos for a memory box.

From the Liberty County Sheriff's Office...

Early this week, Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader received a most unusual but yet heart-warming letter and a box of rocks from a family in Maryland. According to Sheriff Rader, he received the letter and package from “Your friends in Maryland” and signed by Heather Benson and her two daughters, Ella age 13 and her sister Hannah age 4 years old. The box contained 38 hand painted rocks that read “ROCK ON !! July 2018 Rocks for LCSO” and the Benson’s name on one side and “Thank you BLUE” on the other side.

The Sheriff went on to say the letter inside ask that he tell everyone that the LCSO was in their hearts, that they prayed for us, that they supported us and that they thanked us for all that we do and he stressed that he would certainly do as they requested.

The rocks were sent to show appreciation to all Law Enforcement Officers and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was one of the lucky offices throughout the United States to receive this type gift from the Benson’s. The letter from Ms. Benson said that (quote )“ In February 2018, I thought that I should google small town departments and see what I could come up with. I thought that it would be nice for them to know that they are thought of and appreciated, even from far away. As of today, July 30th, including your department we have handed out 1,721 rocks ! Thank you for being part of this with us. YOU ROCK !” ( end quote )

According to their mom, the only thing the little girls ask in return are business cards from the Sheriff’s Office so they can put them in their “memory box” and read through the names from time to time. With the strong support from families such as the Benson’s and with their young children being taught respect for the men and women who make up that “thin blue line” then, perhaps, that “thin line” will only grow stronger as time goes by.
