Evangeline Lilly Plays Hank Pym's Daughter
After months of rumors, it was confirmed by Marvel Studios boss and producer Kevin Feige and by the actress herself that Evangeline Lilly is indeed a member of the Ant-Man cast. The actress revealed during the Hall H panel that she plays Hope Pym, the daughter of Michael Douglas' Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man and inventor of the miniaturization superhero suit.Douglas, however, referred to Lilly's character as Hope van Dyne, which clearly suggests she's the offspring of Pym and his wife, Wasp aka Janet van Dyne.
Hank Pym's Not Fond of Superheroes
Even though principal photography doesn't officially commence until August 18 in Atlanta, Marvel brought some footage they shot with new director Peyton Reed so they could have something to show fans at SDCC.The sequence starts in an empty lab as we hear the voices of Michael Douglas' Dr. Hank Pym talking to Paul Rudd's Scott Lang about how "superheroes are a goddamn joke" who cause a lot of mayhem and destruction. But Pym needs Scott to take on the mantle of Ant-Man in order to handle "a small job."We also know Lilly plays Pym's daughter Hope van Dyne/Pym, but we don't for sure if Wasp is in the movie. One could theorize that perhaps Wasp does appear in Ant-Man in flashback (or she's at least referred) but dies in action. This might explain why the elder Pym is so sour on the idea of superheroes.
