A man is in custody and being treated for burns at the hospital after he is suspected of setting a Chevron gas station on fire and then fighting with the station clerk Monday morning.
The incident started around 3:30 a.m. when the man tried to set a pump on fire.
While waiting for officers to arrive, the clerk ended up in a confrontation with the suspect, a spokesperson for the Anaheim Police Department told KTLA.
“He was chasing me around with his shirt on fire,” the clerk, told the television station.
The store clerk attempted to get the suspect out of the store but was unsuccessful.
As the clerk left the building, he saw the suspect light the inside of the store on fire.
Officers had to use non-lethal interventions to subdue the suspect and remove him from the burning building.
The fire gutted the building, which was only a few doors down from Fire Station 5.
