‘America’s Next Top Model’ Ratings Hit Low In Series Finale, ‘Amazing Race’ & ‘Last Man Standing’ Rise

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details of last night’s America’s Next Top Model series finale.

After over a decade of diamonds in the rough, flame-outs and judges like Janice Dickinson, J. Alexander, Niger Barker, Kimora Lee Simmons and Twiggy, the Tyra Banks led America’s Next Top Model (0.3/1) came to an end with a first last night. Cancelled on the CW in October, the 22nd cycle of the series declared Nyle DiMarco its winner, ANTM’s first Deaf contestant and now the first Deaf winner of the fashion reality series.

While the end of ANTM saw that first and was even with its last original of November 20, it was a low ratingswise for a finale. Down 25% among adults 18-49 from the December 5, 2014 Cycle 21 ender, Top Model’s series finale was the worst the 12-year old show has ever done. Having said that, last night’s finale was not a season low among the demo – that goes to the 0.2 results of the October 23 and October 30 shows. Lead-in Reign (0.3/1) was even with its last original of 2-weeks ago.

ANTM wasn’t the only low of Friday night with Grimm (0.8/3) down 11% from its last original of November 20 to what is a series low in fast nationals. NBC comedies Undateable (0.8/3) and Truth Be Told (0.6/3) were both even with their last airings of 2-weeks ago while night ender Dateline (0.9/3) was down 25%. CBS’ only original of last night was 8 PM’s The Amazing Race (1.1/5), which saw a rise of 10% from its November 27 show. Friday’s Blue Bloods (0.8/3) was a repeat but still steadily the most watched show of the night with 7.51 million watching.

As is the norm on Fridays, CBS topped the night viewershipwise, this week with 6.38 million watching. And as is also the norm, ABC was far and away the highest rated net among the key demo with a 1.4/5 rating off a schedule of all originals. Opening the night, Last Man Standing (1.3/6) was up 8% in the demo from its last new show of November 20 to match a season high. Dr. Ken (1.2/5) was even with its last original of 2-weeks ago while Shark Tank (1.6/6), the highest rated show of the night, dipped 6%. Ending ABC’s Friday night was 20/20 (1.2/5), a rise of a tenth from last week.

Fox’s MasterChef Junior (1.0/4) was also up a tenth from its November 27 show with lead-out World’s Funniest (0.6/2) was even.
