Mt. Enterprise man sentenced to 15 years in prison for Longview bank robbery
TYLER, TX (KTRE) - A 54-year-old Mount Enterprise man has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for robbing a Capital One branch in Longview on Oct. 23, 2015.
According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Patrick Terry Gilbert pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery on May 27. U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider sentenced Gilbert to 180 months in federal prison on Thursday.
Gilbert was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $16,134, according to the press release.
"According to information presented in court, on Oct. 23, 2015, Gilbert entered the Capital One Bank in Longview, Texas, dressed in dark clothing, wearing a 'Scream' mask and armed with a short-barreled shotgun," the press release stated. "Gilbert approached two bank tellers, pointed the shotgun at them and demanded all of their money. Gilbert took more than $15,000 from the tellers and left the bank. Several weeks later, Gilbert was arrested in Nacogdoches County, Texas. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2015."
The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Longview Police Department, and the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office. The case was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Frank Coan.
Gilbert was arrested a month after the Longview bank robbery and charged with the burglary of a residence near the Trawick community, in Nacogdoches County. Concerned neighbors called police to report "a man running through the woods." When a deputy responded, Gilbert fled the scene. He was arrested near County Road 929 after an hour-long manhunt.
Upon investigating, police found ski masks and "burglar tools" in Gilbert's car. A convicted felon, Gilbert was also indicted on weapons charges for allegedly pointing a sawed-off Browning shotgun at a deputy when he was confronted.
Gilbert's record shows four arrests in New Mexico, including distribution of a controlled substance, burglary and armed robbery. Because of his past offenses, he could have been sentenced to up to 70 years in prison.
