The National Board of Review will announce its film award winners on Tuesday, Dec. 1, while the gala event will be Jan. 5, 2016, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

NBR is always one of the first to announce year-end awards; for the past few years, it has followed the New York Film Critics Circle list by 24 hours. The NBR date is consistent with last year, when the honorees were unveiled on Dec. 2. (“A Most Violent Year” was named top pic.)
The NBR has been around for 106 years, dedicated to spotlighting films as both art and entertainment. The selections are made by a group of “film enthusiasts, filmmakers, professionals, academics, and students,” according to the group.
The org honors work in categories that include best picture, director, performances, ensemble, breakthrough performance, directorial debut and Spotlight Award as well as its own William K. Everson Award for Film History, Freedom of Expression, and Special Achievement in Filmmaking.
