Chandler, Zaneis students bring home archery honors

Four Oklahoma students from Chandler and Zaneis Middle School in Wilson were among the top archers at last weekend's National Archery in the Schools Program world tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

Emilee Manning of Chandler High School was second in the girls' high school division and the girls' world runner-up overall by finishing second among 2,362 female competitors.

She was third in 3-D and second in the bull's-eye competition. Manning also was the top high school senior girl shooter in the tournament with a score of 296 out of a possible 300.

Caden Eyestone of Park Road Elementary in Chandler finished second in the boys' elementary school division out of 762 competitors and was the top boys' fourth-grader in the event.

Karson Warrington of Zaneis Middle School was the champion in the middle school boys' division and tied for first overall among 2,605 shooters in all boys divisions with a score of 298. He finished as the world runner-up after a shoot off.

Jerod Aycox of Zaneis finished second among middle school boys and was the top seventh-grade shooter at the tournament and placed third among all boys.

Zaneis had the high team score in both the bull's-eye and 3-D competitions in the tournament.

Aycox and Locust Grove junior Matthew Monroe will be part of a USA NASP all-star team that will travel to Canada to compete in July. They were selected to the all-star team because their scores in the previous NASP national tournament were among the top 16 in the country.

Archery state games set at Trosper Park

The State Games of Oklahoma archery event will be held June 23-24 at the Trosper Archery Range in Trosper Park in Oklahoma City.

There will be competition in 3-D, field and 900 target with divisions for all ages and equipment, including all National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) class and age divisions.

Books will open at 8 a.m. on June 23 and close at 3 p.m.; On June 24, books will open at 8 a.m. and close at 1 p.m.

Cost is $20 for first event and $10 for additional events. Participants may pay onsite or prepay at stategamesofoklahoma.org

Sporting clay shoot sponsored by OWMA

The Oklahoma Wildlife Management Association will sponsor a sporting clay competition June 23 at the Side X Side Ranch near Wynnewood.

Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. with a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30 a.m. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

Six-time world champion Scott Robertson will provide a shooting demonstration.

Teams will be composed of four persons with prizes going to the highest-scoring teams and top individuals.

Registration is $400 per team or $125 per individual. Individual shooters will be assigned to a team.
