Tumwater, Washington, Walmart Shooting: 1 Dead, 2 Wounded

An armed customer in Washington State shot and killed a man who opened fire inside a Walmart store.

TUMWATER, WA - A strange series of crimes led to a shooting inside a Tumwater Walmart Sunday night. What began as a report of a possible drunk driver ended in the suspected shooter being killed by an armed Walmart customer.

The incident began around 5:30 p.m. when Tumwater police got a report of an erratic driver. Moments later, the officers were rerouted to a shooting near Tumwater High School.

At the scene, police found a 16-year-old girl with minor injuries after a carjacking. Police believe the carjacker and the erratic driver were the same person.

Then, police received reports of a shooting inside the Walmart north of Tumwater High School. The incident unfolded before police arrived, but the carjacker apparently walked into the store, opened fire on a display case, and then walked back outside to the parking lot.

In the parking lot, the shooter tried to take a customer's car. When the customer refused, the suspect shot him twice. That victim was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. The suspect then tried to steal another car, but was confronted by two armed Walmart customers and killed.
