HURRICANE MICHAEL: Resources and updates for Panama City/Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH — The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System's main outpatient clinic at 2600 Veterans Way (along Magnolia Beach Road) and its behavioral health clinic at 140 Richard Jackson Boulevard are open until 4:30 p.m. Monday. Veterans can be seen on a walk-in basis for primary care, pharmacy and behavioral health needs.

A temporary VA mobile health clinic has also been established at the Walmart located at 513 W. 23rd Street.  It will be open until 4:30 p.m. Monday. Services available include primary care, pharmacy and behavioral health.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — With power slowly returning and to give people time to return home from work, the City of Panama City Beach has modified its curfew hours.

Curfew is now in effect from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PANAMA CITY — Verizon has set up two Wireless Emergency Communications Centers, one at their 411 23rd Street location and one at Marianna High School.

Both are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The site has cell service and people can also charge their electronics.

PANAMA CITY — Winn-Dixie will have a mobile pharmacy opening from 12p-5p today 10/14 at 3621 US Hwy 231 N. Panama City, FL 32404. This mobile pharmacy will remain open until the regular store reopens. Our regular team of pharmacy techs will have TDAP, Flu, and Hepatitis immunizations on hand. Under a State of Emergency, if your current pharmacy is still closed, the mobile Rx is able to refill scripts without transfers.

Assistance continues to flow into Bay County from the state and federal government, as seven points of distribution (PODs) for food and water will open at sunup Sunday morning throughout Bay County. Meals and water will be available for collection at the following locations:

  • Lucille Moore Elementary School – 1900 Michigan Ave., Panama City
  • Bozeman Learning Center – 13410 State 77
  • Parker Elementary School – 640 S. Hwy 22, Panama City
  • Rosenwald Middle School – 924 Bay Ave., Panama City
  • Cherry Street Elementary – 1125 Cherry St., Panama City
  • Super Wal-Mart – 2101 State 77

The PODs will serve from sunup to sundown, while the curfew is in effect, and will continue to serve food as needed.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Northstar Church will be serving meals out of their Eastbay campus from 11 a.m. until they run out of food.

Their Panama City Beach campus will have light construction supplies from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Household garbage pickup begins in the city limits of Panama City Beach today, Sunday Oct. 14.

For debris pickup, debris must be separated into four piles: household items, yard debris, construction items and appliances. All piles should be constructed along the right-of-way but out of the road and not blocking mailboxes or driveways. Debris removal should commence in the next week to two weeks.

PANAMA CITY — All access check points have been lifted HOWEVER normal supports here are limited.

Travel throughout our county is challenging and all vehicles on the road are potentially impeding the work of the first responders and power crews who are providing needed services. We are in the process of resolving known issues throughout the area but resources are extremely limited (gas, ice, tires etc.) and there's still no power or water in town and very sporadic cell service.

We are still observing at 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. curfew. If you evacuated and can stay away for a few more days, the situation here is guaranteed to continue to improve before you return. If you must return, please know that it is challenging to move around here currently (but it's DEFINITELY improving)

PANAMA CITY — Due to storm damage and mass evacuations, for a period of time current SNAP customers are permitted to purchase hot foods with their EBT card at participating retailers. Customers should inquire first with the retailer. This service is available through October 31.

PANAMA CITY — AirBnb has activated their emergency response protocols and numerous houses and rentals are now available for free for people in Bay County.

Hosts in the regions marked on the map are opening their homes for free from October 8, 2018 to October 29, 2018 for the following groups:

  • Displaced neighbors
  • Relief workers deployed to help

People with undamaged vacation rentals or undamaged homes can also open their homes for free to evacuees or displaced neighbors, and people who need lodging can find it through this link https://www.airbnb.com/welcome/evacuees/hurricanemichael.

Most of the listings available are in central and east Florida, Tallahassee and the Destin area.

PANAMA CITY — Under Florida law, Bay County patients can now receive emergency 30-day refills of prescriptions, even if they just refilled them.

Any health insurer, managed care organization or other entities licensed by the Office of Insurance Regulation must waive the "refill too soon" restrictions on prescriptions.

PANAMA CITY — AT&T store in Panama City will be open tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Shoppes at Avery, 2694 Highway 77 in Panama City. Residents may visit to charge devices, connect to WiFi or make calls.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Household garbage in the city limits of Panama City Beach will be picked up beginning tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 14.

The Beach remains under a boil water notice until further notice.

There is free drinkable bulk and bottled water in several locations around town including the Panama City Beach Police and Fire stations and Aaron Bessant Park. There is a tanker truck full of water in the front parking lot of City Hall. Please bring your containers and fill them. Other tankers have been directed across the Hathaway Bridge.

Dusk-to-dawn curfew still in effect.

Power and water has not been restored to all of the beach. Continue to conserve water. Do not water your lawns or wash your cars at this time.

The City has placed porta potties at various locations on the east end where there is no water. These locations include the Chevron on Joan Avenue and North Lagoon; Rick Seltzer Park; Winn Dixie at Magnolia Beach and Thomas Drive; Lindsey Furniture parking lot, Thomas Drive and Highway 98 and Bid Daddy Drive at the old Tiki Bar.

MEXICO BEACH — US 98 is closed to traffic from the Dupont Bridge in Bay County to the Wakulla County line for road inspection and emergency repairs except for first responders and power/rescue efforts.

Dat Cajun Place on the beach is also serving free food at the restaurant starting around Noon Saturday.

PANAMA CITY — Power restoration east of the Hathaway Bridge, in Panama City, Callaway, Parker, Lynn Haven, Youngstown and surrounding areas could take weeks, according to Gulf Power.

West of the Hathaway Bridge in Panama City Beach, power is estimated to be restored much earlier.

The west end of the Beach, west of Highway 79, should have power back on by midnight Sunday.

Panama City Beach and Bay County east of Highway 79 to the Hathaway Bridge should have power back on by midnight Monday.

ATMs in Northwest Florida are also not currently charging any fees for other members of the community that may need fast access to cash even if they do not bank with Hancock Whitney.
