ALLOUEZ - The upcoming April election is very important in many respects, including the election of three members of the Green Bay Board of Education.

In order to make informed choices, voters need to learn about the candidates' qualifications and their thoughts on issues that are likely to come before the board.

One of the helpful opportunities available to the public is a candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the Brown County Central Library. The forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Green Bay, will feature all six candidates: Andrew Becker, Paul Boucher, Jason Davies, Edward Dorff, Eric Duncan and Rhonda Sitnikau. The candidates will be given equal opportunity to introduce themselves and respond to questions that will be submitted by those in attendance.

The role of public education is of great importance to all. This is so not only for parents and their children, but for all who live here and pay taxes and who value the quality of life in the community. The issues of our time are challenging and complex and the responsibilities of the School Board are great. We all need to learn about those who will be central in making the decisions ahead. As citizens, this is our important responsibility.
