Chettinad Group chairman Ramaswamy withdraws police complaints
CHENNAI: Chettinad Group of Companies chairman and former Rajya Sabha member M A M Ramaswamy has withdrawn life threat complaints he had filed at two police stations in Chennai.
A senior police officer at the commissioner’s office informed TOI about the development on Wednesday, a day after the CBI booked Ramaswamy as the second accused in a bribery case. Ramaswamy allegedly gave a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to M Manu Neethi Cholan, registrar of companies, to declare the annual general body meeting of the Chettinad Group null and void as the AGM was to remove him from the chairmanship of the group.

The police officer said lawyers representing Ramaswamy visited the Fore Shore Estate police station and the Thiruvanmiyur police station with his authorization letter a few days ago.
They informed the police inspectors at the stations that they would settle the issue out of the police station.
Chettinad Palace, where Ramaswamy stays, falls under the Fore Shore Estate limits. He has another guesthouse under the Thiruvanmiyur police station limits. That was the reason why the lawyers appeared before the two police stations.
In his complaint, Ramaswamy had said he was facing a threat to his life. He claimed that someone had installed security cameras on both premises without his permission.
He claimed that more than 20 men carrying security batons and dressed as guards surrounded his house and threatened his employees. They warned them against removing the recently installed security cameras.

In his complaint, Ramaswamy had mentioned that security agency head Lalit Kumar Deolal was acting based on the instruction of his close relative (foster son, M A M R Muthiah).
Sources said Ramasamy lodged another complaint with the Thiruvanmiyur police, alleging that people had trespassed his guesthouse and removed furniture. Sources in the city police said they had questioned a relative in connection with the complaint.
Lalit Kumar, the security chief of Chettinad Security Services, is a retired Army officer. He claimed that he worked for the Chettinad Group of Companies and he was appointed by its managing director Muthiah.
Ramasamy is a third generation head of 102-year-old Chettinad Group. He is passionate about horses and owns two stud farms near Chennai.
