Pest control crews already treating for summer months

WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - We all know the phrase "April showers, bring May flowers."  With that in mind, spring months also bring pests like fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.

David Shoop and his team at Shoop's Termite and Pest Control have already started treating for the summer months.

"We're going to be slammed," said Shoop.  "We already are it's just going to get worse. That's because the threat of mosquitoes is here."

"They've been really bad," said Shoop.  "They're coming on extremely strong.  Mosquitoes fleas and ticks they are the absolute worst."

"We're going to have a good amount of Mosquitoes this year," said Samantha Blair with the Wichita County Health District.  "So far we're already we received more rain than we had in our drought years so we're going to have some."

Blair said crews with the health district have already been out on the hunt for the pests.

"Just in the last few days they say that they have found late stage larva and pupa which means in the next few days we'll probably have a pretty good eruption of Mosquitoes," said Blair.

Shoop and his team want you to stay alerted as the weather turns warmer. "It's extremely important to protect yourself from mosquito bites," said Shoop.

Ways you can do that is make sure your property is free of any standing water. If you have something like a birdbath or a pond, make sure to buy products to fight off mosquitoes.

The health district recommends that if you are outside, wear long sleeves and pants to protect your skin. You also need to be aware of the time you are outside.

Dawn and Dusk are times where Mosquitoes are out the most. The best thing you can do is wear bug spray. While a bite may seem harmless, Shoop wants you to take it seriously.

"The Mosquitoes carry diseases," said Shoop.  "I know it's rare for people to get a disease from Mosquitoes but we had probably about a dozen people here in Wichita last year that really got ill."

Shoop recommends treating your yard for any bugs. He said making sure you spray 50 feet outside your property will fight off and help eliminate the pests.
